cheap cd's

just seen all NO/JD mainstream albums sub 5 notes. how must an artist feel seeing his recent and past releases heavily discounted in shops. would they see it as a reflection of their musical achievements or pure commercialism? presume royalties remain similar. could be worse Ryders big top thingy was 1.97 .....ah but he did that for nowt!

Bet it was in HMV. That's how music is marketed these days, there's no reflection on JD/NO's artistic merit in a price of £4.99. That's how much major artist's back catalogue albums cost in sales these days, with a few exceptions (Stones, Beatles, Floyd). Most of Bowie's latest edition CDs are below a fiver in HMV sales these days, also places like Fopp, Selectadisc. Ziggy Stardust was £2.99 for ages last year. At that price they must get a steady flow of sales from people who grab four or five albums for £20-30. Presumably they'd sell less if they were twice the price.

It was through these sales that I could complete my JD/NO collection.

Nothing like the feeling on a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning when you know you're going to get a JD/NO album in the sale.
