9 Joy Division Photos By Kevin Cummins

Kevin Cummins is having an exhibition here of his Joy Division pics and there are a few i've never seen before.

Great photo's, very moody. I would be very interested in buying a book that had photo's of Joy Division and/or New Order in. Has a book like this been published before?

Not as far as i know, Anton Corbijn has published several books that contain a few Joy Division photos and Kevin Cummins was going to publish a whole book of Joy Division photos called "They Walked In Line", which was cancelled by the publisher, the reason? Lack of public interest, which absolutely stuns me, i for the one would have bought a copy. Love the one on the snowy bridge... reminiscent of the one of the cover of one of the editions of the Peel Sessions album... I think that one might end up as a background on the laptop...

Ah yes, "An Ideal For Living", the first biography of Joy Division, and a great read it is to. I was thinking in terms of a book of photos of the band printed on quality paper. There is a site on the internet called "New Wave Photos" that contains 56 photos of Joy Division here and 210 photos of New Order here by the French photographer Philippe Carly (and heaps of photos of other artists as well).

Or "An Ideal for Living An History of Joy Division" to give it its full title.. Written by Mark Johnson and published by Proteus in 1984.

Best picture I ever saw of Ian Curtis is in that book on p57 taken by Chris Mills, just majestic..

Looking at these pictures again especially after looking at my Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 History In Cutting (almost 400 pages of JD/NO stuff up to the mid 1980's) is the size of Ian's hands!! They are huge. Got be 6 foot 1" tall at least.

What a waste...these guys could have been the Beatles and Rolling Stones of the 80's and 90's but Ian's health was in decline with the epilepsy plus some of the other problems he brought on himself.

I think in 20 years JD/NO will eclipse at lot of supposed big bands because they did it their own way....and they are still pretty common down to earth guys and gals.

Those photos are great; I wish I could see this exhibit.

I've seen some of the photos before like the snow scene and the cathedral. However, this is the first time I have seen the group photographed in rehearsal.

Also a good deal of Saville stuff at the same site, some of them make cracking desktop wallpaper!
