instrument list

i'm looking for a listing of the equipment that new order has used over years. it would be interesting to see if they are using any gear currently that they were using in the 80s. thanks, avi

Hooky still uses the same Shergold Marathon bass, but that's about it really these days.

I believe that Peter Hook has never stopped using the Yamaha BB 1200 bass that he uses in the Perfect Kiss video for all NO studio work.

The Dark Maroon/Black Gibson 345 with the strange varitone electonics stereo dial that Gillian uses at the Taras concert in the early 1980's has shown up in Phil's hands once or twice during live performances (however it could just be that he has a similar looking 345).

I'm not sure when Bernard started using the sunburst Gibson 330 because he used to use a black 335 (along with a few others including a rather ropey white stratocaster and a more standard black and white stratocaster). The SG he uses is a recent acquisition rather than the one from his old Joy Division days.

He does also use a Variax Line 6 accoustic guitar and occasionally whips out a Rickenbacker but those are both new guitars.

I remember an interview with Phil Cunningham when he was shocked to find out that unlike Johnny Marr who has dozens of guitars, Bernard now basically just has two or three.

The keyboard stuff has obviously been upgraded as technology has improved (perhaps the one exception being the drum pad that Peter Hook uses live during Blue Monday).

As well I have a feeling that Peter Hook still uses those old Clone Theory Electro Harmonix stomp boxes.

And, while I shudder to think of what 20 plus years of dried spittle tastes like, there is always the chance Bernard has been using the same melodica all these years.

he used to use loads of Tokai Strats with EMG (I think) pickups.

The old 335TD was dark cherry rather than black, I think he destroyed it over the years (I'm thinking Macclesfield particularly for one incident).

There was also a 12" string Tokai (I think) at some point late 80s.

Nah, he's thrown at least three of the green ones into the crowd over the years, and he now uses a Hohner Piano 27.

Well a Roland TR 808 is a drum machine...

But as far as synths on Waiting for the Sirens Call they used a Roland XV-5080 and/or Doepfer MS-404 synth to create string parts, bass lines, etc...

If you do a search for the Steven and Phil inteview they talk about what keyboards and modules they use live.

And Johnny James... you sir have incredible eyesight... I went back and checked and his old 335 is in fact burgandy... Well spotted.

Yep, thanks for that - I knew he used an electric 12-string around Technique, but couldn't make out the type from the footage I have. He uses it on the "Big World Cafe" TV appearance, although I can't remember the song...maybe Dream Attack? CTB

What was the big fuck off red guitar Bernard used for a while? im sure i saw him playing it in Glasgow 89.

In a previous thread with a link to an interview with keyboard mag, steve said that the strings on WFTSC track were from th mtron collection plug in, also states that they use reason and cubase VST (which is a bit old hat now).
