basic summary of the show so far:

Tony discusses:

Factory Records - Rise and Fall 24 Hour Party People Fairlight Synthesiser (fairlight fairy) New Order

Played new order temptation,

then he started talking bout an english hip hop outfit that is on his new label called 'Raw T' and then played one of their tracks.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be tuning in.

It'll probably be streamed on the J website at some stage.

Interesting stuff.

He remains quite the raconteur if nothing else.

It was actually EGG he played rather than Temptation. He was talking up how important a track it was in regards to the technology they employed creating it.

Darn if I'd known he was hanging out at the Good Vibrations festival here last weekend with Mr Ryder, I would've gone and heckled him. What's he up to in Australia, anyhow?

Ahh yes, the Dairlight, Australia's only contribution to music tech, and the greatest instrument ever built.

And You meant fairlight ferry? right? The "synth" (actually, it's a non-pcm-sample-based-REsynthesizer, but we'll leave that) is name for the Sydney Harbour Hydrofoil.

They should have bought Hannet one when he asked, it would have been small change compared to fac52.

What about the, erm, Devilfish? *Straw clutching*

Indeed, named after the Fairlight ferry, as described by Robbie Buck in the Wilson interview. Ah, the pride.

Wilson touched on this as well. Said if Hannet got his mitts on it before Trevor Horn (as he'd requested), his legacy would be untouchable today.

Very true...although it shows wilson's ignorance of ZTT...Horn's actual fairlight skills were average, he relied on JJ Jeczalik of AoN to do the tricky stuff (hence FGTH and propaganda both having a distinc AoN feel).

I remember someone yelling at me that NO would sound dated if Hannet had gotten his CMI.....but such a position ignores the other gear-of-the-times they depended on....the P5 (which I can barely hear as what it is on NO sometimes), the DMX and the E EII and EII+. It also somewhat ignores that the fairlight was capable of much more subtlety than merely playing a golf GTi Convertable turning over, in an amusing way, or making basslines with burps. Although Fairlight has come a long way, now building audio post pro gear.....the old abilitie are tucked away inside....apparently Jackson's lordOTR movies are assembled, editted and mastered on modern fairlights....and even some of the incidentaly music is DONE on them (yeah...that surprised me too, but really, the original Page R was never exactly Cubase anyway :D ). After a rant on computers, and how good they were before MS took, over on some newsgroup, I got a mail from a guy who finds, reconditions and sells synclaviers (makes fairlight look like a combination os a melodica and a pocket calculator.), and he said, to ALWAYS check out the credits on a tv show....cos 9 shows out of 10, if they need an orchestra...will fire up a 20 year old Syncliaver..and no one will evern know the differnce:D

If I won the lottery, I'd by some Emulators, a fairlight II and III, and a synclavier (if the CIA would let me).

They were reviewing a movie called "Shandy" something or the other and was half watching. Caught my attention when Steve Coogan showed up on the screen for 20 seconds who was in the movie and into the screen with Coogan walks fookin' Tony Wilson talking to Coogan!!!

It is a Winterbottom movie again I learned. :D :D :D

Anyone else see this?
