The New Order Cup - A new format....

This is a great idea having the NO CUP.

but as you know...it will not really determine the best new order songs by popularity, as it is a CUP COMPETITION.

We all know knockout competitions, dont really provide a true tale, as some of the better songs will have been knocked out as they have faced another good song early on.

A better way would be to have a league format contest of the top 30 contender songs, then, they all play each other once. That way 3 points a win. Then we would have the definitive best new order songs by public vote.

Just a suggestion, but then I#d imagine it to be quite hard to produce a program that could do this...??

I've already got the program to do that. We could have a NO superleague of maybe 16 songs, but it takes a lot of admin even in posting the "fixtures" every week, and would anybody actually give a fuck? May give it a try with 8 songs and see how popular it is, when the cups have finished.

The thing with the cup format is that it's like the FA Cup - somebody wins every year, and their passage to the final always depends partly on luck in having a good draw.

It is not meant to be a definitive survey of everyone's favourite song, we've done that often enough in the past.

With end-of-season play-offs, too, I hope... It's fine as it is for a little one-off thing... Maybe by the time any new tracks appear we'll be ready to have another go...

Maybe a champions league format too, for the definitive top songs such as: True Faith, WFTSC, Turn, Regret etc etc

Maybe the NO Cup etc should have its own forum, Nic? There could be a master thread as sticky on the Digital Republic board telling people that there are new polls, but the polls themselves be in their own forum. That way it won't piss off the egg-chasers still mardy because their weird shaped ball-handlers can't beat a bunch of spud molesters
