Spooky Minimix vs. Radio Edit

Is there an expect collector out there that can tell me if there is a difference between the Spooky -radio edit on the US release and the Minimix on the UK single?

I always assumed there must be some slight difference, but now the MSN download site claims they are the same. I've already got the US Single release and the "Singles" album, but now must I get the Uk single too?

So, is there a difference?

The Minimix appears to be 4 seconds longer, if that helps. Might just be an earlier fade, or longer between track gap, but to the true obsessive (which I'm not...quite) that's probably all the difference required. If I had those two tracks on my m3 player (currently full of 1Gig of NO) I could answer your query right now, but by the time I get home where my cds are I'll have forgotten all about it I'm afraid.

Mr Discography to the rescue...!

The Minimix is completely different to the version on 'The Singles' (which is simply an edited Republic version that featured only on UK promos, and a US CD single).

The Minimix was remixed by techno act Fluke (who also did the Magimix and Moulimix). A pretty good version, with a more understated electro "groove". Was the lead single version in the UK (and is also the version in the video - on 'Item'). Can be found on the 1993 UK/US CD singles.

I was just hoping the US Single Radio Edit was the minimix.

Those 3 remixes Fluke did for 'Spooky' is some of their best work (aside from their remix of Bjork's 'Big Time Sensuality' which is an anthem to me).

Fluke's Magimix of "Spooky' is just the bomb though.

At that time (circa 1993), Fluke would do a remix with vocals and call it the Minimix and it was usually radio-length. For the Magimix, it was basically a dub version and a cunt hair faster (like their work for Bjork).

While I'm writing, I might as well say: FLUKE RULES!!!

No, I didn't say it was the best version - probably why the album edit featured on 'Singles'. It's not a bad version, but certainly sounds like a trendy remix, rather than typical New Order. Worth getting though. It's very much like the 'Magimix', but shorter and with all the vocals and Hooky's guitar.

As I said, it's on the US and UK CD singles.

My US single says Radio edit.

ive got a Z cd flip case of spooky which opens up as a letter Z with a compartment with a cardboard disk in, as well as the five track mixes i will dig it out and tell you the details, if this helps you?

Yes, checking the New Order discography here reveals the 8-track US CD single didn't in fact feature the Minimix (also called 'Fluke Mix' on some promos).
