Joy Divison were a great "chill out" band

Listening tio The Eternal again and it struck me actually what a great chill out track it is.Not depressing at all.Just chills you right down and removes everything else from your mind for those few minutes.

Much more than so called intentionally "chill out " songs.

But then i guess any record that you love is a chill out song

i see what you mean though...about some of the tracks. i don't think one would call digital or warsaw a 'chill-out track'!

i guess i agree with what James Dean Bradfield once said about The Eternal .He said he he had been travelling in a car in busy Tokyo ,everyone rushing around .Then out of the blue it came on the radio in the car and everything went in to slow motion and nothing else mattered.Made him look at how all the rushing and shoving and competing in the world became silly and pointless.which you could agree ,in a way, it is

agree 100 percent. even though they're all recording now. JD are one of the greatest of chill out bands. so many great tunes, and so much great music. from Excercise One .. turn down your pulse , turn away from it all.. lines from Insight--as they fall --Reflects a moment in time . A special moment in time. Yeah, we wasted our time. we didn't really have time. but I remember-- -- -- when we were young.

edit - the other part is how clean it feels. even if its angry it's somehow constructive. don't know. Ice Age. perfect, chilly and frosty..

agree 100 percent. all recordings still are the greatest of chill out bands. so many tunes..great music.

nice. especially as it looks like the /my post messed up- with not writing in that JD were and still are- the greatest..of chill out bands. just that it's only recordings now. classic. g 'night there.

They've got a good few songs that slow you down and make you think like Atmosphere, 24 hours, Decades etc... But I think the generally accepted definition of a chill out is that it makes you feel relaxed and at ease...

JD can relax (well, slow down), but make you feel at ease? I'm not so sure about that... not that I'm complaining all these songs are amazing!

Guess it all depends on your definition of 'chill out'.

I agree with all of the above. It's funny, but as I was cruising to work on monday morning, (usually a 3 song trip) I was treated to the "double header" of Decades AND The Eternal. I think it put me in such a reflective state that I finished the trip in on "auto-pilot" and never did put in a third song!:o

really enjoying Movement 81 and Peel Sessions 1990. not so much as not thinking but listening. genius lyrics. brilliant music. bass. drums. ahh.

Disorder sort of chills me out. I think it's the only happy tune from Joy Division.
