First band I ever got into as a child was prog-rock band Yes.

Anyways, on the back of their self-titled debut album, from 1969, it has a few paragraphs about the band that were written by a Tony Wilson, Melody Maker. Would this be the same Tony Wilson?

How old is he anyway?

He's 56 I think, last week was his birthday. Very much doubt that would have been him writing for Melody Maker in 1969, but can't be sure, as I was only 3 myself then!

So he was born in 1950. Well, I guess it could be possible, but probably not. He would have been 19. Keep in mind, most of Yes was only 20 at the time.

Seeing as his name comes up a lot on these forums, I thought I'd ask the NOOL massive.

Yes, he did used to write for the Melody Maker, according to this site:

"There was a tightness and a polish to their music that made some of the rock establishment sit up and take note: amongst them Tony Wilson of Melody Maker (now boss of Factory Records), who wrote the sleeve notes for that debut album."

COOL!!!!!

The mystery is solved!!!!!

How 'bout that? There IS some connection between Yes and New Order. Some of my founding musical tastes are somehow related to each other.

Thanks Nick. Give me a shout sometime. :)
