Peter Hook gets his teasy about Embrace doing England song

Peter Hook, big-mouthed lead bassist with New Order, has attacked the FA decision to allow Embrace to record England's World Cup song. Hooky said: "It's a travesty. We're going to get some middle of the road weepy ballad.

"That's definitely not going to get anyone singing along on the terraces, is it? Embrace just don't do it for me."

Speaking to Planet Sound he added: "They should have got Arctic Monkeys with Wayne Rooney rapping along, otherwise the FA should have just re-issued 'World In Motion.'"

I agree with Hooky: I think it would have been interesting and nice to reissue "World in Motion".

While i like Embrace (if i'm in a mellow mood), i agree. I don't feel they have the right musical style to get people fired up for the footy.

I like Embrace for the weepy shite and the anthems likewise, so I dunno. If it's more "All You Good People" than "Nature's Law" it might...just...work.

"Nature's Law" apart, their latest album is full of uplifting footie anthems anyway. They seem to do uplifting guitar stuff that doesn't attract mad-for-it, Ben Sherman-wearing meatheads ie Oasis without the aggro so I'm optimistic.

PS: PSAS they're a fine BIG TUNES-type live act if you can handle that.

Incorrect. Kaiser Chiefs turned it down in fact. Hard-fi or Gorillaz would have been a good choice.

Embrace are toss-pots. I went to see them with an open mind and after much protestation and almost hurled every time Danny McNamara fixed his brother's jacket lapels, hair, etc. So contrived...

Their encore consisted of Danny bringing his laptop onto the stage to read the words of the song he was singing as he couldn't remember them. Bernard may forget stuff but he would never dance about the stage waving his laptop

Just to put the record straight I was at the Carlow warm-up gig you mention (note the phrase 'warm-up') and some knacker at the front helpfully stole the lyrics to the track they were about to cover as an encore. When no-one would own up he had to go get his laptop.

they we're ok last night that lead singer can not sing for shit, hes always off key.
