Is this the gig that was rumoured to be being rec'd for a live DVD?

No laughing matter being there. One of my most painful experiences watching New Order over the years. Hated most of this from start (when we were guested 'upstairs', if you please) to finish. If they had managed to blag a second night at the Hammerstein I wouldn't have bothered. Best bit about this gig was the American who came on here afterwards saying he was gonna miss Kraftwerk the next month cos he was scared of moshing Germans spoiling it for him! Bless.

While they didn't seem to be the most animated of crowds last time around, find it hard to believe we're worse than the Germans, or Japanese (if you went)!
Aussie crowds often get a name for being the most 'up for it' for tours. Think NO probably left it too long between drinks. Generations passed. Mind, are any crowds really that nuts for them anymore apart from UK?

Generations have passed since ... what though? New Order don't have a major fanbase as such in Australia, do they? The Melbourne BDO was laughable (and we covered this to death four years ago) with Air Bass Man getting chucked out from 55,000 people for basically (a) shouting out between songs, and (b) doing a very bad Hooky impression. People actually cheered and clapped when he was dragged out by security. The NewOrder-only gigs of the Hordern and Metro were rather static too. I walked out 4 songs into the Hordern set. Whilst I know you're a cut above that mentality your self, a lot of the punters seemed to have the same mentality as the Yanks with 'this is my spot, I'm gonna stay here' when stood right near the front. That don't work in the UK. At any gigs really.
Well, you yourself did Reading 98 for the Order so know what I'm getting at.
In fairness only real ripples I remember in Oz were at your local BDO cos Paula got scared and me and some brickshithouse of an Aussie stood either side of her to try and protect her from the moving crowd.
Worst gig I think most of us saw for it kicking off last year was Barca. Think everyone who attended from here would have to attest to that. I got repeatedly punched in the head pushing through the crowd early doors and at the end of the gig I'd had my shirt ripped - not ripped from the buttons but a proper clean slice up the front like I'd been slashed. Other than that, Brittany was absolute bedlam, but mainly just youngsters going mental. Started off well enough with yer Crystals and Regrets but I think everyone near the back could see it going off at the front on videoscreens so was joining in a steady stream, as people are often wont to do. BLT was accompanied by a slamfest of 5ft4 French teenagers in huge rucksacks. Hilarious to see but me and Wayne were both over with our respective laydeez and had to retreat back cos of the little urchins come 'over the top' and kicking our partners in the head.

At Apollo, this bloke accused me of shoving his girlfriend... Erm, I wasn't moving - New Order hadn't even got to the stage! 
And at MCr vs Cancer these 4 girls (who were near the front) kept on kicking and shoving me (just before New Order came on stage) saying "We can't see - go towards the back!" They eventually went in front of me (after several kicks), and got lost in the scrum - bet you they weren't expecting that!! 
Maybe it's just Manchester? :p

It was just 2 wasn't it? Oh I pissed myself at that, these nasty 5ft schlags shoving Nick around. I asked them if they wanted a VIP box and a foot spa as well as moaning about his height! They were acting like they had some god given right to have a full and comfortable view of the entire band's set? 
Was quite amusing to see them swiftly disappear into this big scrum of burly bald blokes (no offence Al) :)

No they don't and never really did. We are a pretty small country after all.
My point was simply that NO toured Australia in 1987, then there was a fifteen year gap to 2002. The band's profile here changed significantly during that period. The crowd attending NO for the Substance tours was quite a different beast. Those days you had strong radio support, hit singles, a student following and a strong indie cred element, drawn together by a real underground status and critical acclaim NO enjoyed here. By 2002 you only had the diehards who'd never let go (ahem), a few nostalgia buffs and a smattering of new fans. In a small country especially, it's not really the recipe for a huge ruck of an event.
From my own experience, I can still recall all the NO fans who I traded vinyl with in high school, and the sad fact is that most of them gave up on NO in the early nineties. The long hiatus between albums and tours did them few favours. Exposure here today is minimal, they don't really fit the format of any radio network and we should just count our blessings if they do make the trek here again.

you have to take away advert time from that of course.so it'll maybe be about ,what, 75 - 80 minutes of the gig?

Well DVDR willing, I'll have it ripped by sunday evening (I could use my fast computer but it has windows on it, so all it's videos tend to be ugly and broken..I'll wait the AGE it takes the linux box in order to get the quality (it can actually do 2 pass encoding without crashing!!!!!! read it and weep Dossers.)

My girlfriend and I were right under the boom camera sweep....and were not at all static! We were however dodging guys with man-purses. I don't know what what up with that. There may be footage of my girlfriend flipping out on some jerk ;)
I think they sounded incredible! I would sure like to see the concert again...any help in that department is appreciated!!!!

From what I gather NO were fairly popular in the 80s - but Australia was in a different place musically then. We were very pub rock - see 'Centrefold', Crowded House, very ballady. Now its getting similar again.
Punk really has no strong basis here - we've got nought to rebel against, no misery filling the towns like in England in the 70s. We are too bright and bubbly for punk to really take off. All the punks I have seen are sort of laughed at ie. "what the hell is your problem, mate?". A punk standing in the middle of sunny Brisbane doesn't look right.

Tricky one a bit, this. I planned to tape the ten-minute feature on Norwegian trio Lorraine before it and set the vid accordingly. What did I get? The Order started early! I hadn't used PDC so it started bang on where Barney introduces Love Vigilantes thankfully.
BLT didn't feature and the atmos was...restrained I thought. Certainly the Noo Yorkers seemed static in the main and Barney was a tad flat here and there vocally but hey! It's the Order. The slot time was ninety minutes and I'd say all of the tracks are there, but if anyone has the actual setlist from that gig handy, could they post it here so we can make the comparison. If anyone wants a VHS copy - without commercials! - get in touch, postage costs only.
the two tracks not aired were BLT and WFTSC.
I never got the bootleg so don't know how much between song banter etc. was edited out
IVE HAD THIS ON CDR FOR MONTHS, RECORDED BY BOLD CAPTAIN, FAIR PLAY TO HIM, DON'T KNOW WHO HE IS THOUGH!!

I have downloaded this from the link supplied now but all I have is a file full of BUP, IFO, and VOB files.
Anybody know how I get this onto a playable DVD format. I have a DVD burner and Nero..

Download and install DVD Shrink (You'll find a link if you Google it). Run DVD Shrink and choose Open Files, navigate to the Video_TS folder you downloaded. Then click Backup - and ensure you have a blank DVD in the drive and this will burn the Gig for you.
