Gillian wasnt there to replace Bernard Sumner when he injured his hand while playing around with glass bottles. She would've not been available to play that gig that night. I cannot imagine NEW ORDER w/out gillian.
What if....?

so there would be just a blank page in the inside cover of low life where her picture would have been? would there be a keyboard just sitting at the side of the stage with no one playing? who would barney have to glare at if ceremony went awry? this is like some nightmare version of back to the future. my mind is going. there is no question about it.

Sadly, that is what we have now.

Can't imagine the Order WITH her now, to be honest.
No, she has left the band. We will miss her rifftastic guitar bursts and virtuoso keyboard solos. We may even miss the occasional bum note and wrong sample triggering.

And you'd have Michael J. Fox trying to play Johnny B. Goode while his hand is fading in and out because his dad's a wuss.....okay, I need to take my medicine now......
Haha great replies here! None the less how about Depeche Mode if Vince Clarke wouldve indeed stayed in the band? What if there was NO dave gahan?

There IS no Dave Gahan......it was Jeff Goldblum all along matey.... ;)

Gillian should've sung lead vocals all along. Barney should be the one playing the 'other' guitar parts and jabbing a keyboard uncertainly...

at least we woudnt had Yazzoooooooooooooooooo
Has Gillian actually left now? I thought she was just taking time out to look after her and Stephen's daughter. If she has left it's a real shame! :(
No, she's definitely left the band. It's just the three of them now, plus Phil Cunningham in live situations.
That story about how Gillian came to be in the band is quite funny - allegedly she came on to play "I Remember Nothing" at Erics after Barney's cut hand had got worse and he couldn't play an encore. Curtis "played" guitar in that song - Barney was making the weird keyboard noises !
She was an integral part of their illustrious and colourful history and i for one wont forget her contribution to the bands persona at the peak of their career
It seems a shame to me that too many forever remmeber Gillian as the drummers bird looking ever so slightly out of place and miserable prodding keys and twiddling knobs (oo-er!) in the background shadows. :(
is she has left then by rights the bad has to change its name, its been often said by the band members during their time in joy division that if anyone left the band they would re-name themselves (becoming New Order after Ian), so what do you lot think they should have changed their name too..... sounds like a subject of a new topic to me!

yea but mate although that may well be true to some extent to the casual NO listener, you can't deny that after being with the band right since their early days that she didnt have a huge role to play in their image and development.

Depish Mode more like
Fook Davey Boy - although Vincey Wincey just about justifies his existence with his remix of WFL
Have to agree with Jarvo about Gillian though - can't imagine her coming back into the band.

Oh yes I can - she still can't play either the guitar or the keyboard !
Has she really left? Was this announced officially somewhere? Anyways, I betcha she does a cameo at forthcoming UK gig(s) a la the first Apollo gig last year.
If she really has left I'm gonna miss her: the whole three lads and a lass thing worked aesthetically and (dare I say it) ideologically. Her standard "no emotion, bored-out-of-my-head" pose was pretty cool, too......

I dont recall ever saying anything about her ability to actually play an instrument hence i cant see why a disgreement should surface ;)

well put!
all factors in the image and development of the band i'd say :)
