I'm just listening to this 2006 mix - it is very good IMHO - what does everyone else think?

I'll take the exhaulted spotnick's word for that and point out the error in the sleeve of the Future Retro CD I've just listened too which says 2006 (FYI The mix is: The Crystal Method Extended Mix 6:05).

The Richard X mix is a bit tighter in the round, but the CM one has a smidge more energy/rawness I'd suggest.

Not that anyone need know, but are Crystal method 'another' band who have crossed over/live with feet in both camps of being a live band and essentially DJ/producers? I remember seeing them in SF in 1999 supporting Orbital and they were very raw - good but not tight enough as a live act.

Community Service 2, their album featuring the remix was released in May 2005, I know that because I have a flier home where New Order's management phone number is written on it ;)

However I think what you have is the unmixed version, and yes, Future Retro was released this year after being delayed for almost 8 months.

Cheers Spotnick for the info. I would recommend the Future Retro Vinyl and CD as both have different mixes and I can't pick a bad song on there.

Yep, I got both formats when they were released. Spotnick's 100% correct on the release dates, however, the unmmixed version was available on the 'Community Service II' 2xLP.

In my opinion, the Richard X Remix is better. They are BOTH excellent, but that harmonizing vocal on that Richard X Remix is sooo fcuking 80s, that's what puts it over the top.

Richard X is to the '00's, as Shep Pettibone was to the 80's.

BLT : Richard X uses the vocoder from the original and added some nice keys to the instrumental intro to the song. His other mixes also do the 80's justice (Check out his mix of Yaz's "Situation").

Now, I enjoyed his remix of Yaz's 'Situation' but if you have the 2xLP, the Future Funk Squad mix is just so damn funky, I played it at a small party last month and, as I hoped, it went off.

I suppose to follow mysilentface's point - Oakenfold and Osbourne are the ace remixers of the 90s then with the plethora of Perfecto mixes that spring to mind. U2 (spiting feathers as I write I know) even better than the real thing is a truly great tune once Oakenfold got hold of it. Happy memories.

Speaking of Oakenfold & Osbourne (you could have a whole thread devoted to their remix work) but when they did their remix of Rolling Stones 'You Got Me Rocking' - that s**t was so cool back in '93. Matter of fact, '93 was pretty much Oakenfold & Osbourne's year.

State of Grace 'Not Over Yet', I think, was their opus dei. When they re-released it in 1995, it was, like, the Orlando Florida National Anthem. :)

IMO the CM mix is ass. It's a crime that this shitty version has been released on two albums (Future Retro and CM's own mix CD) and the Richard X mix has never been released on CD. A CRIME I TELL YOU!!!

to follow suit on as ever and forever's post re: oakenfold and osbourne, perfecto being the seminal remixers of the 90's, i can vouch for that by saying that the perfecto mix of lemon (released in 93) got me into trance at the time. amazing stuff...

to follow suit to mto's post re: grace's "not over yet", i actually prefer bt's spirit of grace mix. the intro is pure bliss. grace was oakenfold's protegé for quite some time and i loved the mix he did for her track 'i want to live'. wow.

On the Perfecto theme - Lemon is certainly special and the link to Grace is brilliant. I remember an essentil mix from Oakie's world tour in 1999 (Beunos Aries if I remember correctly) which I recorded on Mini Disc - so it ran out after 74 mins - at about 66 mins the 99 remix kicks in, great stuff.

I love when things like this come up. I just bought this CD last week and have playing it in my car since. It's ace!
