"New Order Play At Home" - 1984 TV

No idea if this programme has been mentioned here before but this was the entry in TV Times (Central Region) on 21st August 1984, 10:50-11:50pm

NEW ORDER PLAY AT HOME "Series which gives rock [sic] bands the chance to make programmes about whatever they choose. Manchester band New Order tell the bizarre story of Factory Records and play live in their own night club [sic] The Hacienda."

Credited as an "RPM Production"

Anyone remember the series or even seen this particular show? May have been broadcast in other ITV areas at different dates/times.

I watched it that very night in August 84 and had it on tape for years.Recently recieved a copy on DVD.I don't have DVD burner on my PC otherwise i'd send you a copy.Somebody on here should be able to sort you out though.

It was one of a series of docs done DIY style by bands.Another one was by The Bunnymen and there was a third but can't recall who did that one.

I didn't see it then, but a few people have been nice enough to send me the particular show in question for my perusal, and it's definitely one of the coolest NO show-type deals I've seen. Would have never guessed that was where Steve and Gillian had gotten their samples for 'Loved It' had I not read about the episode in the book "New Order and Joy Division The Factory Story"... which I forgot about completely until I saw it mentioned here and it sparked me to re-catch up on some things I'd not seen ever.

And would never have seen without the generousity of some very kind people.

According to Steve Severin's website the Banshees one is going to be released as an extra on the Nocturne dvd. Seem to remember it consisted largely of the band dressed up for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

I never have seen all of this programme, all I ever saw was some edited highlights, namely the Hacienda tracks and Gillian and Wilson in the bath.

Banshees one is excellent, loved the clip for 'weathercade'.

One more episode of Play At Home may have been ...oh shit it has gone out of my head, Hooky mentioned them at the Brixton Academy 83 gig. ........Hearts?
