So....The Tour is To Support An Album?!

Was sent this by a journalist mate. States that the tour is in support of their ninth studio album......

GLASGOWHOPES FOR BLUE WEDNESDAY AS NEW ORDER MAKE LIVE RETURN TO SCOTLAND

Mancunian icons and genre trailblazers, New Order will return to Glasgowfor the first time in five years on Wednesday 18th October to perform at the city’s CarlingAcademy. The Glasgowdate is part of a highly anticipated UKtour which will follow the release of the bands ninth studio album.

With a career spanning almost three decades and with eight studio albums, thirty two UK singles and countless compilations and contributions to soundtracks under their belts, New Order are one of the most influential and successful bands of all time and in recognition of this fact, the foursome were inducted into the very first UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005.

New Order’s headline appearance on the R1/NME stage at last year’s T in the Park created a real party atmosphere with fans being treated to the likes of Blue Monday, True Faith andTemptation alongside a few Joy Division tracks. As testament to the influence New Order have had on new bands, Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers joined the Manchester legends on stage for Crystal providing fans with an unexpected festival highlight.

SaysGeoff Ellis, CEO ofDF Concerts, “There are very few bands that are as iconic on the world music stage as New Order and putting the band on at T in the Park last year was a personal highlight for me. New Order was a hugely influential catalyst in the introduction of electronic music to the rock and indie world in a way that no other band had been before and you can still hear their impact on countless acts today.”

It's clear: Bernard is writing new lyrics; some time in the summer they'll lay it down in the studio (August?); September will be spent in mixing and October will see the new release. Quite quickly for the boys, innit?

Didn't New Order used to develop songs by playing in the studio a bit, then taking the tunes live and making up some BS lyrics, then going back to the studio to fine tune the music and write some proper lyrics? Maybe the fans at these concerts will get a sneak preview to some songs on the next album!

Dunno, these press releases are usually written around bullet points supplied by publicists. The fact that they're spot on with it being their NINTH studio album lends a bit more credence to it.

In fact I'd say it sounds more likely than not. Why else are they doing so many (for New Order anyway!) dates. More than they did in support of Get Ready. And it can't possibly be another compilation.

Tax returns? New yacht? The possibilities are nearly endless. Fingers crossed it is the album, that would after all be on the timescale that they spoke of with WFTSC.

Well... there's a new Live-DVD in the pipeline, so why not support this with some live-dates?

2 albums in 18 months would be mind blowing after making just 3 albums in the last eerrmm what,16 years ?

Well they did talk about "the next one being ready next year" at the time of WFTSC, didn't they? Everyone assumed it was bollocks even though there were supposedly seven songs ready, maybe there actually were seven done, with just a couple needing to be written to complete the album. Guess we'll find out soon enough!

I remember around the time of WFTSC's release Hooky admitting in an interview he was exhausted because Barney made the band finish 7 or 8 additional songs that would be used on their next album...

Nostalgia explains why the tour will shift tickets. It doesn't explain why they're dragging there lazy arses on the road again for what will be their biggest UK jaunt since 1989.

As I said before, whoever wrote the press release has been given the info about a NINTH STUDIO ALBUM which is very specific. If it had refered to "their latest album" or something equally as vague then I wouldn't have given it a second look.

If this is true, then I have something to look forward to later in the year. If not, I'll just continue to listen to what I have while waiting for the next album to be released.

I remember reading that they dropped a good lot of songs from WFTSC, because they sounded like The Killers. Perhaps they've been reworked?

I agree, there's some significance in that. The rest of the press release doesn't read like the work of someone who is sufficiently familiar with the band's work to know that unless he'd been told. No doubt we will find it soonish!

Last jaunt like this was Summer 1987, 1989 gave us the Big World Cafe performance, SECC/NEC back to back and Reading Festival.

Just out of interest, when is Norders contract up with London? One more album?

I was referring to the number of venues Al, not the number of dates.

And if history is repeating itself summer 1987 tour was 6 dates between 6.6.87 and 30.6.87, mostly midweek. Tour would have been even more dragged ot if ST Austell hadn't been cancelled.

If they sounded like the Killers, then they probably sounded like Get Ready.

Hmmm..I seem to recall a Hooky interview where he said something along the lines of the extra songs sounding like the songs already on WFTSC, that they sounded "New Ordery".

There must be some playfulness involved in The Killers reference...God forbid, and I say this quite earnestly, that they adopt that awful, retrograde sound. New Order are the genuine artists, they need not take cues from the recent crop of U2 soundalikes.

Of course whatever tracks that constitute the new album will sound like New Order. It's a patented sound, no?

Well as long as the setlist has no (True)Faith either, it'll be alright!

Spoke to the bands PR and she says there's no new album due out, so the local PR for the gig have got that wrong.

'S True though. New Order's next album IS coming out late summer. But it isn't the studio album we're waiting for. It's just going to be a "Singles - Remixed" package which will collect together all those 12 vinyl 12"s that came out a few months back onto a few CDs just to satiate those without a record player............ zzzzz......zzzzzz......zzzzz......zzzzzz.....
