No - they probably won an Ivor Novello award simply for decking James Blunt for having the gall to win it for best song!

"Outstanding Song Collection" - WTF is that supposed to mean? Is it an award for their whole back catalogue, or for "Singles", or what??? ![]()
It's a lifetime thing... the info was leaked last year and I was asked by the management to remove it ;)
It's good old Tony Wilson that leaked the info in an interview.
Congratulations to New Order!

It's like every awards thing is waking up a bit late for school recognising the Order.
But good on them for getting even a lifetime achievement like thing. I mean, might draw in a few new fans or a few old ones who didn't know the name of the band they used to blast on the stereo.
I'm always for a few new fans. Keeps the fire going. All that sentimental stuff.![]()
katy tunstall was on radio2 this afternoon talking about this ans she mentioned the order picking up an award, and claimed the the acceptance speech was the funniest she had ever heard and that the order was slagging everyone off. great stuff eh:D

Have never heard of the Ivor Novello awards - are they well known in England? Just that my hubby's from England and he's never heard of them either.

Yeah. It's mainly an award ceremony to honour songwriters, I think.

On the official site Phil Cunnigham get slisted first - bah, he's done feck all compared to the others.
That SUn article is the worst thing I have ever read, a 2 yaer old could have written it.

Two year olds write, read it and most worringly of all, quote it!
Yup, the Ivors are an annual gong given out to various people who have sold lots of units errr shown songwriting excellence. George Michael won one once which, seeing as Novello was a Welsh gay man, shows he had more than music in common!
Seriously, well done guys. They're becoming regulars at these backslapping events but it's long overdue.
This is Part of the Speech:
New Order picked up the award for Outstanding Song Collection, and the band behind England's football anthem World In Motion, from the 1990 World Cup, took the opportunity to have a dig at Embrace's effort this time around - World At Your Feet.
Bassist Peter Hook said: "The production's awful, although it could have been improved if they got Wayne Rooney to do a rap.
"A good old Scouser rap would be good for a football song.
"Their track really has no virtues."
Very funny stuff :)
