Barney's hair - From Black to Blonde(ish). When?

I hope this hasn't been discused before (I used search dammit)but when did Barney's hair change colour. I've seen a Black and White picture from 1982 which looks as if he still has black hair then (although it quite dark). So, erm, discuss.

He spent to much time in the sun. So it went blonde. And I don't think he's ever had black hair, it was just like a mousy brown colour.

Looks pretty black too me.

Probably somewhere between 1983 and 1985-ish, I suppose, judging from pictures and music videos.

I honestly wouldn't call that black, I've got black hair, i mean real black hair where you can't actually see any other colour. Otherwise i'd say it was brown. Wow i can argue about anything.:p

In the very beginning of New Order he still had dark hair...so he changed to blonde around 1981( I have a picture and it is April 1981 and he is blonde).

Sumner changed his hair color right before coming to New York in 1983. Compare the footage from 1982 or March 1983 and June 1983 (Confusion) and you'll see.

His hair was dark in that TOTP Blue Monday performance.

Are you sure it was black? From the looks of the Transmission video, it seems that the hair products and the lighting made the hair appear black.

Theres a videeo on youtube from 82 or sometime with them playing Temptation live. Bernards hair looks pretty black there. ALthough the lighting is pretty poor like SS says below. This one.

I'd say his hair is brown in the Transmission video, with the lighting & background making it look darker. Impossible to tell in the Temptation video due to the poor lighting, but it certainly could be black. Anyway, he's obviously had several different hair colors. It's still Barney though.

:) That makes him sound like an alchoholic.
