Can't remember if this has ever been asked and discussed on here before, if it has then it must have been a while ago as I've forgotten the answer!
Who is whispering in the background of the Peel Session recording of "Too Late", and what are they saying?
not sure if im hearing the part you're talking bout, but i think its most definitely Barney, and it sounds like 'back back back to the start' or 'back back back to restore'? ive always heard it in the song but its the only time ive tried to decipher what he's saying

sounds like "back back back back to the start" to me. has anyone bothered to put the lyrics up on the music section yet?!!? I could never understand why they had been omitted.

There was a post on one of the forums months ago about this and I posted a possible set of lyrics... I'll try and find them and repost and maybe if folks are in general agreement about their 'accuracy', Nic could add them to the lyrics section?

EDIT: Can't seem to find them, and without re-listening there are a couple of bits I'm not sure of, so if noone beats me to it, I'll have a listen when I get home...

I'm guessing the reason it wasn't played live or released 'officially' is because, great though it is, it sounds more like the sound they were anxious to leave behind than the sound they were heading towards.
Its ways been one of my favourites - it has that understated meloncholy that was central to early New order.
I just have a few changes to propose to the lyrics as shown above:
It was a hard hard thing, for me too, In all that time nobody knew, A sign of devotion from years before, Brings me back where I'm afraid to go.

Another minor change, I hear the first two lines as:
It was a hard, hard thing for me to do, And all of the time nobody knew.

I'd go with these lyrics, although the 'It's safe' could still be debatable, as it sounds like two people say something at that point

Thats my interpretation anyway.
