I cant believe New Order didnt release this song as a single. It is so contemporary, a perfect fusion of rock and pop, it has one of Hooky's greatest ever riffs, and the bass is way out front, just as it is in New Order's best ever songs. I studied music at college and this song is a perfect example of structured music - note the perfect fusion of beginning and ending (classical piano) and the developmental section in between, along with plenty of thumping techno bridge sections by Steve Morris. Yet no one on this forum seems to like this song. Why?

I don't post much on these boards, but I'll happily add to this post, whenever my MP3 player is on random and it gets to Dracula's Castle I'm always pleased to hear it again. It does however, have a terrible title, I mean what was wrong with "Mini Disc" ????
I love this song, and I think it's one of the best songs on the "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" album.
It reminds me of "Dream Attack" a bit, too.
Actually, one of my favourite tracks on the album. Grossly underrated by many. It's the subtlety of some of the lyrics that get me - a bit like a few from Technique.
Only NO track I still don't like is WIFM. And even then, I have the official releases in all formats, plus a couple of promos...

I have only listened to it a few times, but I don't certainly hate it. I need to listen to it more.
I love the song, not the title. But who cares about the title really. It's a fantastic track to me.
DC has grown on me more than any other track on wftsc...love the instrumental bit with all the different instruments...classic NO.
Not bad, but smacks a little of being 'filler' - of which there have been a few on the last 3 albums... I don't dislike it but couldn't get excited over it, in the same way as some of the other tracks on WFTSC... Title does suck, though...

Not a fan myself, sad to say. Sounds very dated to me, and reminds me of All The Way from Technique, another track I never got to grips with. Just sounds like it's trying too hard to rock out when it simply hasn't got the bollocks of a Sunrise or Age of Consent.
I thought it was one of the weaker songs from the album on first few plays and still do. DoN and Baldrick tried their best to convince me it was good
All The Way on the other hand is a fookin great song

"no one" - well, there are a few who like it, just look at this thread.
for me - I don't like it. It doesn't appeal to me. I have a musical background and have studied it, but I don't need it to tell me that I think the song sucks. Dog poo has a structure to it, a beginning and an end. Do you like that?
It does have an awful name, but it's in my top 3 or 4 off WFTSC.

I simply love this track really, when I have my mp3-player with me and there is only time left to listen to one or two tracks I always choose D Castle. Can listen to this song any day, any time. Love the mildly passionate way Bernard sings it ( I can't explaaaaiiiiinnnn ...) and the sarcasm (you can't keep on running, how far do you think you'll get?) and threat (I ain't done with you yet...) in the lyrics and the instrumental bits. Also it's a fast song which are always the better New Order songs in my opinion.
I can't explaaaaiiin either though why other people don't like it. I guess a song either gets to you or not. Not much point in trying to convince other people to like it, I suppose. It's not a book you can try to explain to people. I'm just happy they made this track and even if I would be the only person on the world to like it I STILL LIKE IT!!

My opinion is that it's not the worst song but it's along way from being the best too.
It's one of about four duff fillers that occur right in the middle of the album.
WFTSC thus reminds me of a dumbbell in that respect - fat and bulging with muscles at both ends but thin, feeble and flaccid in the middle.

To me the song sounds like New Order recycling old ideas with little inspiration, sounds loke recycled ideas from Technique... pleasant but kinda bland. the lyrics/ title certainly have little inspiration, I would think that the song would not have made the cut if they had not decided to do the ill-fated "lets stretch the songs into two albums and make twice the money!" idea
on the otherside, it is the only track which comes close to the old school New order synth sound
I was listening to the album today and I do quite like DC.
I think the silly title/lyric puts people off which is a shame but once you get past that it's a decent enough "choon" and extremely New Order-ey which is no bad thing.
It beats Slow Marmalade any day!
I think it's a good song, personally. It'd be nice to listen to a dub version of Dracula's Castle.
I love DC! It's one of my 2 favourites off WftSC, along with Turn. I especially love the descending notes on "So goodbye loooove" the first time the chorus is sung. The piano is also a nice effect.
The Dracula thing seems to be possibly a recurring theme with Barney, as Electronic's "King for a Day" has the bit about "I'll tell you a story how Dracula hunted me down."
I really like the music and production.
I would be more comfortable if:
A) The title didn't mention Dracula
B) Dracula wasn't mentioned in the lyrics
C) All of the above.
With this band you would do well in occasionally turning a deaf ear to some of the dodgy lyrics as there's always something worthwhile underneath.

It's one of my favourites on this album and yes the title is naff!
For me I just don't like Working Overtime for some reason, and it doesn't fit in with the rest, it's like it's just been stuck on the end!.
Also a point was made that DC sounds like something off Technique, well there's a few tracks that seem like amalgamations of older NO songs, but all in all it's a belting album.

I think it's a decent song but I agree that the title is missplaced, even moreso than most other NO lyrics. Maybe it's enough to turn people off. I guess the place they wrote it in reminded Barney of Dracula's castle. Whatever.

It's got all New Order's signatures in it without being stunning.
A cliche track I reckon. But still like it.

I like it...much. The Hi-Hats keep it a little overly busy, but the bridge is awesome. The half-step bass overlayed with the piano off-beat...it works.
Funny side-note, one of my best friends is now a super-mega-huge Hip-Hop + R&B producer (I'll name him if anyone really cares) back when we had time to hang out, he'd come over and we'd BLAST all my favourite NO tracks. He loved them and when we'd go into the studio his tracks were sprinkled with Technique. Seriously, he has a distinct electric piano / clavinet sound of his own, but when I hear one his new tracks on the radio, I can tell that NO is buried in there...fact. If I started to name bands/acts/albums he has done, it would get stupid and I would make ommisions and mistakes. Let's just fairly say NO is sublimated into Hip-Pop...and I do take some credit.

Oh, and I think Mr Disco is a great name for a tune - evocative of exactly the kind of name some ee-d up chancer from Leeds might give himself as he struts his stuff at some sub-Space/Manumission Ibiza meatmarket.
But Dracula's Castle is s sucky title - that much is true. The song itself? Meh...
It's an OK song; not a corker by any means.
If the Techniquey chuggy-chuggy synths towards the end were peppered through the song it could have been a hell of a lot better.
Defo room for mucho improvement in the right remixing hands.

Using the word 'dracula' is akin to using the word 'spiderman' or 'snow white' in a New Order song. just doesn't work.
it doesn't work especially because it seems like something Robert Smith would do, and Sumner would not do. very out of character to be so obvious and unimaginative with a silly title.

I think the song is ok, but then I think the majority of the album could stand to be remixed. I think theres probably a few good lines that could be salvaged from the song so we could have a good remix. Or maybe just a nice drums n bass instrumental remix. But hey samething with jetstream. Actually I think hooky's bass is the best thing about the whole album, and some of phil's guitar fills. For me DC just sums up the bad things a about the album. Not that its a bad tune, just poorly presented really. I agree its filler.

When I first seen the track-listing for WFTSC I thought 'Dracula's Castle' is going to be a clinker ... how wrong I was, yes the lyrics are naff but it wouldn't be NO if there were no duff lyrics it is part of their charm and in my opinion DC embodies everything I love about NO.
Because it is fucking shite. Because it is NO on cruise control. Because it wasted approximately 4 minutes on WFTSC. Because it is devoid of all thought & idea. Because it is Barney's worst lyrics. Ever. Because NO are better than that. Because I can't believe it came from the same band that brought us; LWTUA, Truw Faith, Blue Monday, Round & Round, BLT, Confusion, WiM, Vanishing Point, etc.

I have to agree with you only for the fact that the track's called "60 Miles An Hour". Surely if NO wanted to be cutting edge thay would have called it "NINETY miles an hour". Great track but conjurs up picture of grandad in the first lane of the M67.
Its not a great title but I do quite like the song. Listening to it now reminds me a little of Special. I like the backing vocals, albeit they are very slight. I like the melody of the verse but the chorus is a bit dull which shadows into the bridge.
I like the sequencers on this track just the song isn't the strongest. Even the lyrics are stronger than others the Barney has concocted. The bass isn't bad on it.
Its never going to be a hit but its not like that fucking "Liar" shite either.

Hiya Jenn! Hated this when WFTSC first came out,but Hooky's bass won me over! 
ive always liked it when it comes on,nice record,but then again not enough to make me dig it out and play it. i seem to recall that AL JARVIS really loves it a lot
I think it may be the best track on on the album. Either that or the title track.
Before the album came out, and I was frantically searching the usual sites for a leaked copy, I kept getting fakes. Then I got Dracula's Castle or Minidisc or whatever the title of it was...and I knew about five seconds that this was the real deal. This song is just classic New Order. It's first song in a long time that has the BLT/Technique sound. In fact, it may be the only song since then.
Too bad they ruined its chance for popularity with the awful title.
It is a very good tune...the lyrics are weird as usual but the score is very innovative... I want to hear this tune live at least once...then again...Hardcore fans here don't seem to agree on this...

The title was inspired by the name / location of the recording studio (I think I read this somewhere on NOOL once)...
Seem's a good title; Vampires of Love, Broken, Empty Hearts and all that kind of imagery?
