11 June 2006 DJ HOOKY WILL SAY IT WITH ROSES Billy Sloan NEW ORDER'S Peter Hook won't bat an eyelid when his band launches their UK tour - because he's too busy worrying about a support slot he's lined up.
Hooky has agreed to play a DJ set for top Scots tribute band The Complete Stone Roses.
"I view it as having a few mates around to listen to some of my favourite tracks," he said.
"Some of them like 'em ... others don't. The ones that do can have a jig and the rest shout: 'F*** off'.
"It can be the loneliest job on earth. You have no band mates or bass guitar to hide behind."
Hooky was good pals with the original Stone Roses so does he rate their Scots clones?
"I love The Complete Stones Roses. The lads are spot on musically. But the concept of tribute bands puzzles me," he said.
"The audience act as if they're the real thing.
"So if somebody is drunk enough to think they're the Roses, who am I to burst their bubble?"
New Order have been working with film director Anton Corbijn on a biopic of singer Ian Curtis, who fronted their former band Joy Division until he took his own life in 1980.
"It's a respectful look at Ian's life just before he joined Joy Division.
"It's a helluva lot darker than 24 Hour Party People which told the story of our involvement with Factory Records," said Hooky.
"I like to think Johnny Depp could play me... but it'll probably be Johnny Vegas."
What would Ian have made of the legend which now surrounds him?
"I hope he'd enjoy it. The greatest thing is we made some brilliant music.
"I think about Ian every day. I listen to our records and there are pictures of him on my wall."
Does he rate Editors who've been hailed as the "new Joy Division"?
"I hear similarities to Ian's deep booming vocals and a reference to our music," said Hooky.
"But it must be really boring for Editors to always be compared to us.
"They're making their own music and it's great."
New Order play Carling Academy in Glasgow on October 18 and 19.
Hooky and The Complete Stone Roses play there on December 1
