How do the band write and record these days?

I realise this has probably been covered before many times but does anyone know how much steve contibutes to the writing process these days? I always imagined he was the one who mainly came up with the dancier material, bringing in whole sections of stuff he programmed himself (i could be totally wrong). Do you think this is still the case? I just can't imagine the lads in the studio programming stuff themselves anymore (or even choosing synth sounds!) I bet this is left to the engineers.

Anyone have any insights on how the band write and record these days?

I don't think any of this is true. NO have almost always been true craftsmen in the studio, even when they were learning their way. And Bernard built their first synth and did after all do Electronic, so I don't think Steve is in any way more responsible for the dancier tracks. I think WFTSC was a pretty collaborative effort between the band members, not engineers.

Right, that's my assertion, and you misunderstood me as saying he wasn't involved at all. I'm saying Bernard was initially responsible for the first push into the mesh of acoustic and electronic arrangements in their songs. It's been said Steve had a big hand in Blue Monday, the Perfect Kiss, and Bizarre Love Triangle, but I'm pretty sure Bernard usually took the lead on the synths while composing. Remember when Hooky talked about "Bernard's white lab coat phase" and how he was obsessed with the electronic stuff on PC&L? It's in some big interview they did for Mojo or something about six or seven years ago.

I just thought of 'Vanishing Point' being mainly Steve's and Gillian's. And World in Motion.

I often record notes and facts with pen and paper. Plenty of people do it. :read:
