I'v seen pics of Hooky and Stephen smoking. Do they still smoke, does Barney or Phil smoke and what brands do / should they smoke?

It's nice to know that the singer, Barney, doesn't.
I thought Steve said he gaving everything up. Drinking, Smoking, the works.
Well Barney is smoking on the cover of the Second nature cd. But some might say thats Art.

Dunno that it's Barney on there. Although I once read a Jon Savage interview where out of grief after Ian's death Barney did(briefly I assume)start smoking draw, which I think is old Manc slang for pot, to get over it for a while(perhaps courtesy of either Alan Erasmus or Tony Wilson). Otherwise I think he pretty much dislikes anybody who smokes around him. Hooky started smoking around the time Republic was being recorded due to being stressed-out over the other shit going on between themselves and around them at Factory. He seems to have(almost)quit with the exception of when he DJ's. As for Steve, good luck if he has managed to go cold turkey off both the booze and ciggies.

as far as brands, the one time I saw Hooky smoking, he was having a go at marlboro lights...
Yeah, Steve still smokes I think. He's smoked since Joy Division as there's that photo on the back of Torn Apart of him offering a fag packet to Mr Curtis.
As for Hooky smoking when he's DJing, I suppose he's a bit stressed! I'm glad that Barney doesn't smoke as it hammers the vocal chords.
Yup, Hooky still smokes (not that much) during his DJ sets - at least I noticed him smoking one at the beginning of his DJ set last night/this morning! :)
Time for a smoke...

yeah my dad only ever smokes when he's dj'ing, and even then he probably has about 2. i dunno its probably just to make himself look cooler. though i keep saying, giving yuorself lung cancer is far from cool.

nah, they weren't my fags...Hooky was trying to light his with matches, and it was a windy day, so I whipped out my Zippo and offered it up to him...
It seems Barney was smoking pot around the time of Twisted Tenderness.
"And later on with each illegal breath I take I lose resistance for an instant to my fate"
"I'm on my own I think this stuff is getting stronger"
Those are lyrics from "Haze." Of course, the title itself is a dead giveaway.
On the 24 HPP DVD where hooky roweta and several others are talking through the film, hooky says that he and barney never smoked it was just steve and ian, he could have been telling fibs or dont count spliffs as smoking.
When I go to this thread I keep getting the image of the Regret artwork with cowboys lighting up cigs up at the top. :D

What, you've never seen a fat person smoking.
What a stupid thread.

Not so much an actual daft thread just a fairly silly generalisation/stereotypical assumption within this one.

Possibly..although again it could be referring back to his post Ian Curtis greiving period as I mentioned earlier in the thread..maybe both.![]()

So young, yet so wise.
