It is, isn't it though? Yeah, I can't actually tired of this song. Great music, not bad lyrics (shush you people in the back about the one or two lines of silly.
)
An appropriate "soundtrack" song for anyone's life. In my opinion. ![]()
I think Jack should be banned from declaring one of his own dad's songs to be "mint." Seems like a conflict of interest to me. Then again, if for everyone one song he likes, he lists three of his dad's songs that he thinks are trash, that would be getting somewhere. ![]()

If Jack was commenting on songs that he had written himself I might agree with you.
But I don't think that having an opinion on what your parents do, weather good or bad is a conflict of interest.
Maybe you're a wee bit jealous cos your dad isn't quite so 'mint'?![]()
he can declare what he likes, none of my dad's songs were ever "Mint" but if they were i would have declared it to the world!
granted my dad was an autobody mechanic

Just a perfect song in everyway. Sometimes a song comes aong that is just perfection - and that's Regret.

I'm not being funny or anything, but who are you to comment on anyone's father? For all you know, and i'm not suggesting he is, Hooky could be a right bastard of a father, and Daves dad could've won "Americas best Dad" for 20 years in a row.
Your nose must be pretty brown minx.

just what exactly is wrong with you? why do you deliberately try to pick fights over posts that don't concern you?
I'm not picking any fights. I just dont think its anyones place to comment on anyones parenting abilities or lack thereof.
Are you totally dumb? Because thats the impression i'm getting.

Maybe you're a wee bit jealous cos your dad isn't quite so 'mint'?
a comment on Hookys ability as a musician?
As i've mentioned before, the arsekissing on this board is totally ridiculous. People need to open their eyes.
this sucks
i start a thread about a great song and how much i love it, and then it turns into this. why can't people just stick to commenting on the song?
it just really fucks me off.
all this thread was meant to be was a discussion about regret, none of this arguing bollocks.
im outta here this is just silly ![]()

Too right . . .
I like regret too . . . and I'm not saying it to please Jack, or Sam down the street, or Who'sa-what's-it's granny - nor anybody else (see" Re: The childhood I lost replaced by fear Thread Started by MLANH- Started: Thu, Jun 08 2006 - 8:15:28 PM).
I understood that Jack's starting the thread was to open the "song" for discussion - bottom line - not to start personal attacks.

Aww. Did you get shouted at in work again Liam?
Anyway, Regret is a belter of a tune. Endlessly listenable, memorable and great lyrics to match.
A classic NO number.
Jack, "Regret" is one of my favorite songs as well, and there was a time when it perfectly described what was going on in my world. It's essentially about searching for peace in one's life, despite whatever turmoil we may have experienced. I think everyone can relate to that.
Now maybe we can find some peace in this thread...

Hello Liam you lovely bundle of fun you, What I was saying is I think Hooky is 'mint' and the comment about Dave being jealous was made only in jest; And is in no way meant as a dig at his parents. (I hope no one else took it as such.) I think my dad is a great dad but he's certainly not as 'mint'as Hooky. (Perhaps i am understanding and using the term mint wrongly? I thought it meant really cool.)
The point I was making is that Jack has as much right to comment on songs as all of us here do.
Hope that clears it up for you sweet pea. Huggys Minx
Edit: Sorry to all for posting this reply here I'm not technical enough to know how to quote posts in other places. Hopefully that will be the matter sorted. And comments on regret will follow.
I LOVE regret. It's a great song that people take to heart in many ways. I know I have an emotional connection to that song.
I was listening through singles the other day. As WIFM faded I was full of thoughts of how I felt knowing there was no more New Order. When Regret came on, I burst into uncontrollable tears, honestly, it just overwhelmed me, SUCH an amazing tune to come back with.

don't get caught in the crossfire...i'd stay far outta the way if i were you!![]()
LOL, first Jack is accused of knowing nothing about, and never seeing NO, now posting about NO causes trouble.
U ever get the feeling you just can't win round here.

Remember hearing it on Radio 1 one morning shortly before it was released, rushing to get a tape to record it, just about managing to press record before the verse kicked in... Knowing right away that it was a classic and after so long away, the rush of excitement at hearing the instrumental bit in the middle - classic NO...
They have a real knack with this sort of thing - Crystal and Krafty both had the same effect, easing fears about how the band would sound after a few years away, and then in typical NO style this being destroyed by some not-so-great tunes on the albums...
For me, Regret is their best pure POP moment... ![]()

Regret is a solid NO song; but I don't rate it as a classic musically (er... or as classical music) but the lyrics are superb...
Special off Republic always stops me in my tracks, along with Avalance off Republic; two of my top faves from that period.

Brilliant.
Someone says Regret is a top choon. And this turns into a debate about our Dads.
My Dad is actually the 'mintest'. So there. And he looks like Alex Ferguson. ![]()
Thought the telephone line was absolutely trite when I first heard Regret. And I probably still think it's trite somewhere deep down in me subliminals, but I don't really give it a thought now.
Superb track though. Solid and dependable. Crossover for both the hardcore and the windowlickers.
Didn't this come 4th in our 'ultimate New Order chart' recently, only beaten off the obvious triumvirate.
Expect to hear it 3rd in the set at Liverpool.
Er, or 2nd. ![]()
(Be nice to hear it near the end though, just for once, to change things around a bit!)

I don't blame you for being fucked off, Jack. Seems to me that too many threads now are turned into pointless arguments and piss taking when there is no need. Some of these people must be sad fucks in real life.
And I
Regret ![]()
PS. It's great to be proud of your dad.

We need a separate forum called "Bitch Session" or "The Squared Circle" or something like that. Then we could just talk about music in this one.

that's a good call. one of the other forums i post at has a "bitch board". NOOL definitely needs one of those.
Anyway, I think Regret is a beautiful song. I think I voted it first or second on my list for the definitive NO top 10 forum. The music is just very beautiful. The lyrics are OK. Esoteric in typical NO song, so we can each read into it what we want. Probably conjures up different images for everybody.

amazing song.. that guitar riff I don't think anyone can get tired of.. and Hooky's basslines seems to sing from the soul. awesome drumming and synths as well. altogether great song. the video's not bad either, one of the more enjoyable videos I've seen.
"just wait 'til tomorrow, that's what they all say, just before they fall apart" - classic

Cool thread! Yeah, people do seem a bit grumpier now. Hard to believe it's the same people. Times must be hard. Maybe the World Cup has people stressed out. ![]()

I make one little comment to Jack in jest and suddenly tempers flare. I just meant it seems a bit too easy for Jack to start a thread saying how good one of his pop's best singles is, because it's awfully hard to be objective in that case. It's like Napoleon's son saying how great it is that his dad conquered most of Europe. Pretty obvious. But if Jack also mentioned a few New Order songs that he dislikes, it would be easier to swallow. (Hint to Jack: pick a few more songs from Republic.) Then again, maybe he thinks ALL of their songs are great, in which case, my point about a conflict of interest would seem all too correct. ![]()

Jack bashing's an awful popular sport round these parts tho, it probably wears a bit thin after a while.
LOL, if he were half the arshole some people make him out to be he'd have asked his old boy to ban each and every fuckwitt with a NOOL login from all future gigs, I know, I AM that big an asshole and it's what I'd do ![]()

Regret is a classic. No Doubt. The intro is mint
My Dad has done a bit of design in his time, so i am not allowed to say i like it cos he's my Dad?
Only read - skimmed - previous posts, but I love this track; it is just one of those songs that you hear the intro..........and...........I love it. I think a lot of people 'listen' too carefully sometimes and miss the obvious. I don't care if it's Abba for example; a certain song, a certain time.........will always be great.

Errr....more than likely Ron. It just spilled out.......and now I REGRET it!
Regret is New Order´s finest moment, period. It is the Mount Everest of songs, ..Temptation, BTL, Ceremony are merely K2s or Kilimanjoros.
That intro, that bassline, the clever use of guitar intro throughout the song, the lines "Just wait til tomorrow, that what they all say. Just before they fall apart"
Who are ABBA? :)
Me and my wife got engaged in Rome and in my effort to go down on one knee and propose to her in our rooftop 5* restaurant, I needed to distract her so as I could get the bloody ring box out of my pocket. So I asked her what the white building was (which turned out to be the Vittorio). She looked away saying she didn't know, I got down on one knee and played it smoothly.I proposed and she said yes. Since that night, every time we have gone to Rome which has been annualy we have always had our photo taken in front of this building together. We love it and Rome itself now.
I have always loved Regret. I never saw the video though, until last week.
For the first time I realised that NO had shot a lot of the video in front of this building (which is a war monument come museum) and on seeing it for the first time I filled up. And when I showed it to her, she did too.
And now, even though she is not a NOOL or NO fan, she also loves Regret too. ![]()
