New Order songs that sound like OTHER New Order songs

That quote from Steve last year has stuck in my head - 'sometimes we will be writing and I’ll say; ‘we can’t do that…It sounds too much like New Order’ we can end up writing an old song! “Stop...this was on Low-Life”. “Oh yeah”’

Now I keep hearing references to their older songs in their newer ones.

For example - Every second counts - The Village - same melody in my head - especially now with the David Potts version!

Anyone else got any others?

Anyone who says "The Beach" sounds like "Blue Monday" gets nil points.

Bernard is a big fan of little melodies centered around two notes separated by a whole step. "Atmosphere" has that followed by a descending set of notes. This general idea has been used for "Ceremony", "Temptation", and "Regret". New Order pretty much own the hook that goes 'ba-da-ba-da-ba, ba-da-de-duh, etc' ("Love Vigilantes", "Your Silent Face").

Hooky's Bass part in 'As it is when it was' and the melody from 'Love will tear us apart'(I know that's JD not NO)

Yeah I've noticed that and it always make me smile! This is completely unrelated but I was watching the perfect kiss video today and noticed the joy division poster in the background for the first time. This is a perfect example of the little things that make me love new order but does anyone know where this poster comes from? I'd love to get my hands on it!

Ultraviolence and Murder are pretty much interchangeable in parts.

Crystal and Paradise have certain similarities.

Weirdo and Monaco's "Under The Stars" wins the award for self-plagiarism though!

Hooky plays same bassriff in Vicious Circle(Mike Haas Mix)2.54-3.01 and in Monacos Sweet Lips.

I certainly thought there were a few bits and pieces copied onto the WFTSC album.

If you're actually interested, you could wade through This

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Dream Attack was perfection. Dracula's Castle was, well, er, ah, complete an utter shite. :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono:

 That's just my personal opinion, though. Nobody has to agree with me. Only the strings part towards the end. "Dracula's Castle" may not be their best song ever, but I still like it, and I think it's a hell of a better song than "Jetstream" or "Krafty".

Apologies Leather Girl.

I passionately love Dream Attack and will defend it to the death. I detest DC with equal vigour. I'm sorry you were on the receiving end of my wrath.

Please believe I do respect your opinion even if I disagree.

as is documented in another thread, I recently rebought the Slave maxi single. In listening to all 7 or 8 versions, it struck me as remarkable how much Hooky's vocal sounds like Barney, or at least, he AFFECTS Barney. The song structure, also, made me think of many midperiod NO songs.

(it brings to mind an old anecdote I once read about all the members of the GoGo's having coincidal menstrual periods)

in addition to the vocal, I also noticed that the drum and percussion sounds were straight out of the RoundAndRound remixes...

any comments?

I should say that I beleive all great bands have THEMES...recurring sounds that are used throughout thier catalog...its just part of what is great about great rock. It ties things together

on the other hand, I HATE the way andrew loyd webber reuses HIS musical themes over and over and over, but thats another subject, eh?

Valid point there. Ceremony and Regret sound very similar, due to the chorus being based on the C chord and Im sure you could sing either chorus over the chorus of the other.

Atmosphere - Ceremony

Regret - WFTSC - Krafty

I know Monaco's "what do you want from me" basslines sound really similar to a song on Brotherhood(if I got that one right?)

The first two songs on WFTSC. I often start listening to the album and not even notice the first song switching over to the second. Aside from that, Dreams Never End and Leave Me Alone, and... there's others... I can't think of them at the moment.

I get that too with 'Who's Joe' & 'Hey now What you Doing' - also got it a bit with WFTSC and Turn, but I think its more the pace of the songs than anything else.
