as usual cashing in so shameless some people. we could all put bootlegs on e-bay if we wanted, but i like to give mine free.

Whilst agreeing with you to some extent, bootlegs aren't always easily available to people - especially those who don't use this website. In the days of vinyl and tape (ask your dad kids, or yer mam) I've paid for the stuff.

Thankfully if I'm desperate for a boot I can usually source it from those who've been kind enough to oblige on this site in the past [you know your name!]. But I've also bought stuff on ebay that I think would be taking the piss to ask others here to provide free of charge. If I'm buying - I need someone to sell it (or have to get a thick skin and beg you bastards}

I can remember paying $30 for a New Order bootleg in the 90s when they were scarce and I felt like I was the only die-hard fan in my small town.

Now we have this site so I can ask a user for a trade and they can get all holier-than-thou and lecture me about contacting them about their sacred collection.

If you don't like that someone's selling boots, just look at another listing. Surely there's a higher authority to handle bootleg issues on Ebay without the help of a freelance copyright vigilante.

Just think if you NEVER owned or heard a New Order bootleg.

Fu**ing tryhards.

I think selling bootlegs is out of order really. I've never had any problems off people on this site, just a bunch of freindly people willing to share the wealth legitimately. The band have expressed how much they dislike people selling unauthorised bootlegs, but they're sound with Thieves Like Us, so it makes sense to respect the band

Right. I understand that viewpoint, but still, let the band and their staff do the policing.

Again, what if all of us die-hards had never owned any bootlegs? We wouldn't be able to yammer about what our favorite version of 'Temptation' is, or what Barney said to so-and-so at such-and-such gig.

I can't play both sides of the fence on that.

Yeah, I hate to see bootlegs of official releases on Ebay like the GIAUE boots last year, but live shows? Gimme a break, man, New Order will never play live for me within a 500 mile radius, so a recorded live show is the closest I'm gonna get.

And please don't take me the wrong way. I've said it before: I've never downloaded one illegal song of the 'net EVER (and especially NOT the Order), but getting all gestapo on these people who peddle live bootlegs, give it a rest!

You never called the cops on your record shop clerk when they had "exclusive" New Order records back in the day, right? What's the difference?

Commence flame war.

ok

I can see both sides really i agree that live bootlegs are sometimes hard to obtain, so i will try and not be so moral in future.

i have bought bootlegs on e-bay and from other sources so really i was having double standards

in future i will leave the complaining to those who are really bothered

I and most of us arn't against selling bootlegs. But we are against taking things from this site and selling it. Because if this continues the people who give us these concerts will stop, then we are all F**ked.

In an ideal world this is how it'd be done. However, if I send you a list of all the stuff I don't have can you provide it? You may not want to - therefore if it's on ebay they are doing me a service. Not all NO fans will come to this site and be aware you can get it free, also who owns the recording? It's not you, it's not Spotnick (who needs to look up 'sick' in the dictionary :nono: and then read some newspapers) we are all participating in an exploitation of someone's livelihood, we are all hypocrites.

p.s. Can anyone oblige me with a copy of the Royal Festival Hall Miners Benefit - the one with 'Decades' on? My tape deck is knackered.
