Run Wild - lyric meaning

Way back in the day Get Ready was released I read a favorable review in Q Magazine that stated that Run Wild was Barney's response to the ill health at the time of his young daughter.

Knowing nothing at all about his family I just wondered whether or not this was true, and if so, has his daughter recovered.

From a personal aspect my grandmother died within days of Get Ready being released and when I heard Run Wild it broke my heart.

Furthermore the song became even more poignant for me when only weeks later the 9/11 atrocities occurred.

A rather morbid thread I know, but "good times are round the corner".

I think its about Steven & Gillians kid who was ill. I dont think Bernards got a daughter anyway?

I think that's about it - Steve and Gillian's babygirl Mathilda wasn't too well. I remember reading at the time (here, actually) Steve wrote those words, not Barney. Not sure. As far as I know, Barney's not got a daughter. Has he got more children other than James?

Anyway, hope everything's hunky dory with Steve, Gillian, the girls and the tanks!

Steve Morris wrote the lyrics for Procession and very good they are too.

I didn't know Steve wrote Procession, I knew he sang it a couple of times. Well they are very good lyrics, he should have written more.

I'm sure I heard their daughter was sick, so I really hope she recovered or is doing better now.

Nope.

Your Silent Face was written by each member of the band (and possibly Rob)

Saville (during one of his talks) has told the story of the band being in the studio during PC&L and taking it in turns to go and write a line or two on a bit of paper in another room. Can't remember who put the lyrics into some kind of order, but that's how Your Silent Face came about.

I may be wrong, but did Hooky not write Dreams Never End?

aye - he said that at the one me & don went to - don recorded it i think. he said there was paper there & when anyone was inspired they'd go write a line or two down. (wonder if they said "I'm just off for a line") hence the "no lyrics" bit....

I thought I'd read in another thread here that Gilian wrote Dream Attack. Or was that just a dream attack of mine? They do seem like Barneyesque lyrics though.

I personally think lyrics can mean anything to anybody, regardless of what the lyricist had in mind.

Lyrics can mean anything, but I think it's interesting to know what the writer had in mind at the time, especially if it's something deep like talking about an ill child.

From memory I think he has at least one other son called Dylan with his current girlfriend.

All I can say that a day or two after the MEN Arena gig in 1999/98 (what year was it? I'm currently pissed!)I saw Barney in Baby Gap in the Trafford Centre. I shook the man's hand and told him what a God he is, and told him when they were going to get another album out. He said they were going back in the studio 'very shortly'...

And if Gillian DID write Dream Attack then I would love to thank her very personally...
