Apologies to Mark Kelly for ripping off your thread of a couple of days ago, but inappropriate song titles (ie ones that have nothing to do with the actual song) are defo one of the things that makes NO special. Maybe people would like to post their favourites... mine is Sooner than you think, as I heard it's a pisstake of the Smiths' How Soon is Now. Also I used to have a copy of Lowlife on tape which had it misprinted as 'Sooner than you thick', which always made me chuckle.

Denial 586 Sooner Than You Think True Faith Dream Attack Young Offender Primitive Notion Turn
586 has a real ambiguity to it as it was typical of their song titles of the time i.e it wasn't mentioned in the lyric and had no obvious connection to the song at all. I've heard that it refers to the arrangement of part of the track: five bars, then eight and then six - anyone clarify this?
Love Vigilantes is a great title as is Ceremony and Hurt. I caught the end of a programme last night about an escort agency and it featured bits of Turn and, slightly obviously during the civil partnership sequence, Ceremony!
It used to be the case that they'd all write ideas for titles on a long piece of paper stuck to the studio or rehearsal room wall and each member (plus Gretton as well probably) would put ticks against ones they liked. How, then, did they decide which untitled piece took on which title? :)
Ps Am I right in thinking that an early Cure album has drawings instead of titles for the songs featured and it was only later that the drawings were interpreted by Smith in actual language/descriptive terms?
Ah,now it becomes clear! 2001-Get Ready,2005-WFTSC,1999-Rob Gretton R.I.P......It was Gretton that chose them!

Think they were assigned at random, weren't they? That would explain why the titles and songs are usually unconnected. Though I've always assumed that the title of Thieves Like Us is a cheeky indicator that they've nicked the riff from another song to use (think it's a Hot Chocolate song), so there's some sort of logic going on with that one.

It's also a movie title but you might be onto something there.
