Recently on NOOL I've come across some company selling gig photos, a dude promoting their myspace efforts and another trying to impress us with their JD covers on another interweb thingy (after a handful of posts).

Is NOOL being infiltrated by those who just want to sell us something?

I feel violated, and at the moment, with all personal issues taken into account, I'm not sure that's good or bad (which probably translates to all you NOOL females in the Manc vicinity that I could do with a good night out if anybody's offering!)...

I think that's just a tiny minority that does that. It doesn't bother me, and the vast majority of us here on NOOL don't do such things.

i guess this is the place to mention the spam that nool creates merely by having our email adresses on it.

some enterprising sod has decided to use them for spam. :(

Spotty please fix that up. perhaps you could create some code that adresses are visible to memebers only and then only after a certain amount of posts, similar to the weeding forum. just an idea.

Tis true, being a domain owner holder, I use a different email address for every site. And guess what email address gets all the spam?

As a dude promoting his myspace efforts, I'd just like to point out that I am not selling anything and you only have to click the link if you want. I presume some people might be interested in hearing different bands that are influenced by JD/NO, I know I am and that I look at others who add links to their bands sites.

Ive mentioned before about people joining just to say "Ive got such and such cd for sale on eBay" its pisses me off too.

Well, in my defence I have to say I copied someone elses idea of 'advertising' my community 2 entry in my signature.

When the competition was over, I changed it to my normal music website. I don't see it is as a big issue - as far as I can tell no one has followed it up anyway

I think links in signatures are pretty much all pervasive across the net. Certain people have profanities in their signature which some might consider more offensive.

I haven't received any NOOL spam that I was aware of. Hmmm now I feel left out. Or maybe, were they for viagra ?

You can make your profile private and hide it.

Next version of NOOL will have a private and public email address.

i don't want to make my profile private. however, i am unable to change my email let alone my instant messenger addresses there.
