Discography: World In Motion...

Can anybody confirm if the Subbuteo Dub has been released on CD? I refer to the 4:09 mins edited version, which is on the UK 12"R (Fac 293R) and contains vocal samples at the end of the intro and at the end of the track. I couldn't find this one in the discography.

Besides that on all my copies (European releases), the No Alla Violenza Mix is a slightly edited version as well and runs only approx. 5:20 mins. This same version also appears on the 2002 re-release cd. To me the full length (CD) version is very hard to get.

By the way, I can't seem to find the 4:05 edit of World In Motion... either in the discography section. This is the edited version used for the video. (Probably this version hasn't been released on any 'audio' format I suppose.)

Hopefully one day there will be an update, as I often take a look at the discography... Keep up the good work! :thumb:

And it's World In Fucking Motion.

Thanks for the links Shug, but I don't know why you put them here. Of course I could find the World In Motion... release in the neworderonline discography, but I just couldn't find the correct time credits... And from some other threads I'd understood that not all the info given in both discographies you mentioned are complete or correct, so I was just asking for some confirmation on the info...

By the way, personally I'm not very amused when somebody's using the f***-word... :shades:

Personally I couldnae give a fuck about your dislike of the word fuck or fucking. So just for you....FAC OFF

Was just trying to be helpful, I must have been doing a Jarvo (speed reading) and missed the jist of yer post. If I find the info you require I will post it here.

I promise to read your posts properly the next time amigo.

Nope, not as far as I'm aware, and yes, the online discographies are wrong! The only version that I have of the "edit" is one that I've ripped from vinyl.

The full version (5:40) is avaiable (on CD) on the Canadian CD single and the "Remixes In Motion" promo CD single - both very rare. I *think* that it's also on the German 3" CD single and the US CD single, but I'm away from home, so I can't check until Friday (at the latest)!

Not that I'm aware of, no - your best bet to digitise this is to rip it off the "Item" DVD using one of those DVD audio ripping programs! :shades:

Thanks Nick for your comments. :thumb:

I do have the German 3" and 5", both include the 5:20 edit of No Alla Violenza Mix... So I have to wait till the Canadian cd-maxi will be up for auction somewhere. What about the US pressing, every now and then this one surfaces at eBay?

I presume the UK promo won't be available anymore these days... :shades:

Knowning that Canadian CD Single would be so rare... I would have bought more than one in 1992 when I bought mine.. there were plenty in the bins.

Seems the internet ruined it for everybody :p

  • Track times may differ. * "Remixes in Motion: the unabridged dance tracks". ** The tracks are in a different order. *** Tracks mislabeled as "World in Motion" and "The B Side".
  • Also released on a cassette that came with Ocean's videogame "Championship Football"
  • The "No Alla Violenza Mix" exists as 5:19, 5:40, and 4:12 versions, "Subbuteo Dub" as 5:08 and 4:13, and "The B-Side" as 4:48 and 4:14.

Help with verifying track-time for the various releases is very much appreciated... :) It's been confusing.

Don't worry. It's in the pipe. It just takes time since the current update is... well, huge. My draft-copy of the ASCII-file containing the entire Discography has increased about 55kB in size - I'd guess I am about 85% done with the update. As for new scans to the Discography... I haven't counted them yet but we are talking hundreds of new scans. And scans of some really nice and rare gems. You won't be disappointed ;)

The progress is slow but steady.

I know what you mean, when I bought my Blue Monday -95 promo cd there were at least 6 in the bins for euro 1 (2 Dutch guilders), I only bought 2!!! :banghead:

Yep, I can only second that. There is one now in eBay, but quite expensive...:brow:

Erhm, it could be that it that says 5:51 on the sleeve/label (not sure where that timing came from). Anyone able to confirm this on the mentioned releases? (I'm miles and miles away from my collection...)

I believe it used to be that the UK 12" was in that bunch as well, but actual measurement of the time concluded that it was the 4:48 version. It's possible that the above releases are identical to the UK one, but until I have more evidence stating that, I will have to go on what's printed on sleeve/label (or what has been in the Discopgraphy previously, it didn't get added by random).

It's interesting then that the UK 7" and 12" are identical track-wise.

As I said... the WiM timing has been confusing ;)

All of the Canadian CD singles are very rare - 1981:82 (only place released on CD), World In Motion (CD only tracks, apart from UK promo CD), Fine Time (for Fine Line) and Round & Round (used to be for Best & Marsh 12" - now on Retro).

Seriously, Nic, if you see any of these on your travels in bargain bins, pick 'em up and make a fortune on ebay! :shades:

The 5:51 timing is probably from the World In Motion website discog - having none of those countries' 12" singles, I can't confirm whether that exists or not, or whether it's just a typo on David's part?

There's also a German 12" single of "World In Motion" (Factory/Rough Trade RTD 076T), which is the "normal" release - i.e. probably similar to the one discussed above, as opposed to RTD 076 RT - i.e. the "Remixes").

You'd be amazed how much cross-pollination that has taken place between the discographies throughout the years :ignore: Anyway, it works both ways... But I don't really think that David listens to each of his acquired items and keeps track of the time.

I have both the SW and GR releases. I may be able to check the sleeve/label next weekend if I remember. My turntable is since long stacked away...

Note taken of the GE WiM. Thanks.

I live in the Toronto area so if I see any of the Canadian releases I will pick them up. I know there are always someone here looking for them. It's funny that there was a time where every shop you walked into had the World in Motion.

Cheers!

Here's the correct times (according to Windows Media Player, not the label) on the Canadian CD single:

CD5: CA 1990 (Polygram 846 237-2) 4:31 World in Motion... (single mix) 5:40 World in Motion... (no alla violenza mix) 5:56 World in Motion... (carabinieri mix) 5:09 World in Motion... (subbuteo mix) 5:10 World in Motion... (subbuteo dub) 4:48 World in Motion... (the b-side)

I think the Canadian Blue Monday 1988 CD single had a track exclusively on CD too. The Dub or Instrumental or something? I don't have mine to check anymore.

It has Touched by the Hand of God (Dub version) more commonly known as Touched by the Hand of Dub on the UK 12"; clocks in at 5:33.

The mastering on the Canadian BM-88 was atrocious which is a shame considering the rarity confined on it. It's the only place to find the full 12" of TBTHOD on CD. Although it technically exists as part of an extended (exclusive) mix on the Salvation! Japanese CD.

I think there's also a Japanese CD3 or CD5 somewhere with the 7" of TBTHOD on it. Although with a bit of work in Cool Edit you can create your own 7" edit from the TBTHOD 12" which sounds flawless. They simply chopped out a small mid-section before Hooky's bass starts.

On my Canadian tape there's a BM dub I never seen anywhere else : BM 1988 (dub version) 7'16.

This one is also on the Canadian cd-maxi and also on the Facdv 73R, mislabelled as Beach Buggy, as well as on the US promo cd... and probably also on some vinyl too

I haven't listen to the SW and GR release, but I did check the vinyl and sleeves. No mention of track times. I'd be surprised if they differ from the UK one. The Swedish label usually got the vinyl from UK, slapped on a Swedish label and put it in a Swedish sleeve.
