The answer is always a multiple of nine. If you look at the grid of symbols, all multiples of nine are the same.
I used to know why the answer is always divisible by nine. but I've forgotten.

There's no 40quid to win!
I can see the divided by nine thing but the symbols are different. Try it a couple of times using different numbers and it still gets it right with a different symbol. I cant get my head around it
If anyone's still struggling (or, for that matter, interested) then the best way to see what's happening is to look at the pattern that the results make:
