Blue Monday 12"s B Side = JD's Closer?

Hi, I just dug out my copy of the classic Blue Monday 12" to record it to mp3 (Sorry to the vinyl purists). The A-Side is fine, Blue Monday is just over 7 minutes long, plays at 45RPM, etc. However, the B-Side is actually the B-Side of Joy Division's "Closer" (another great album) which plays at 33RPM instead of The Beach. You can see 4 clearly separated tracks on the vinyl too, but the label still reads as The Beach. I've gone thru all the versions of the 12" on Discogs but I've found nothing. I'd really like to know if this is rare or something. Can someone tell me if they know of this and how many 12"s they've heard this has happened to? Thanks a lot, FutureImage.

Yes, definitely FAC 73. I can't believe it myself, it's not as though I paid a lot for it either! I definitely got it from a record fair but I think it might have been just something like a £1.

That's quite unique, I guess. I will check all my copies as well in a minute... So you were as fortunite as I once was with a mega rare Monaco 12" promo of Shattered, I bought for only euro 1!

just to change subject a bit.... how rare is that monaco 12" Is it the one with just one track on just one side? I got a copy a few years back for about £2. Forget I had it till I read this.

As for the blue moday 12" sounds like a rare one to me. I've just got one with the lables on the wrong sides.

I have heard of this before, though not for a few years. There is also a mispressing of Blue Monday that has some godawful jazzy shite on it as well, again the B side. There is also at least one copy out there that has the A side on both sides - we should hunt it down and give it to Mike!

I doubt it, it's exactly the same as the British second pressing (die cut sleeve, black inner, etc.) and the labels are all exactly the same as the "original" so it would be a very very very good bootleg indeed for 1983, Peter Saville himself would have probably have to have made it.

I have the BM/LWTUA mispress, it is easily recognized by the groove notation etc. On your copy, what do the markings on the innermost area of the vinyl say?

My original Factory copy of Movement had the sides mis-labelled-a being b,b being a,but I traded it in at The Record Peddler on Swan Street for pennies after buying the cd.Oh,by the way,I'm stupid:(

Swapped labels are not rare, it's just a matter of the vinyl landing upside down in the glue-label-to-vinyl machine...

This case is an actual misprint of the vinyl. They tend to be rare - one'd assume they would get caught in quality control...

From the top of my head, there are some interesting misprints out there:

• BM 12" b/w b-side LWTUA
• BM 12" b/w b-side Closer (as mentioned in this thread)
• Hurt 7" b/w Depeche Mode's Obercorn
• There is also a New Order album that has a PSB album despite what the silk screen says. Don't remember which one...

i was readiung through this & thinking the exact same thing - what does it say on the run off grooves on both sides?

traditionally mispresses don't get that much, much less than their rarity deserves so don't book that foreign holiday just yet...

The A side (normal Blue Monday): FAC- 73-A* Townhouse Max

The B side (Closer): FACT 25 B3 RC

^That shows it's the completely wrong plate for the B side.

what was this? Hurt with a Depeche Mode B-side?

Coincidently I have a 7" test pressing of Confusion (7FAC93B1) with a Depeche Mode track on the other side (7BONG4A2), can't remember what track this is. I'm not convinced these are actual mispressings however, what they'll do if a label wants a test pressing of a cut of only one side is back it with some other plate they have to hand or maybe a blank plate.
