I may have tried this game already, my memory's a little hazy but oh well.....in a complete and utter theft of the "six degrees of Kevin Bacon" game, what celebs can you connect indirectly to New Order in six or less moves? Here's a simple one to get started:

  1. A NO remix appears in Blade, starring Wesley Snipes

  2. Snipes appears in the music video for Micheal Jackson's "Bad" song in 1987

  3. Jackson marries Elvis Presley's daughter in 1994 or 95

  4. lisa Marie's mom, Priscilla, appears in Gun with Leslie Nielson and OJ Simpson

  5. OJ is a commentator for Monday Night Football, briefly sharing the booth with Howard Cosell

Thus: you can connect Howard Cosell to New Order!!!!!!!!

See, isn't this fun......:D

Let's see how this one works out....

  1. Perfect Kiss video directed by Jonathan Demme.

  2. Demme directs Silence Of The Lambs

  3. Jodie Foster, star of that film, attended Yale, as did George Bush, Sr.

  4. Bush's son George wins controversial election over Al Gore.

  5. Gore's wife Tipper leads the fight to rate the lyrics on records with the PMRC.

Conclusions? Draw your own please! I make no political endorsements or conclusions based on these flimsy pretexts of ideas (and the alcohol is just starting to kick in here!)

perfect kiss was directed by jonathan demme. jonathan demme directed something wild which also had jamie lee curtis in in, jamie lee was in trading places which was directed by john landis who also directed coming to america which had actor james earl jones in it. jones starred with richard pryor in bingo long and the travelling allstars. richard pryor appeared on the partidge family as a black activist that gets involved with danny and or course has david cassidy in it. i think i did it.

Not what I'm looking for (think a movie he was in featuring a song by a guy whose brother may have had some business with JD....I probably just gave it away). This is not word association so much as real-life connections, however distant and fleeting.

Jamie Lee was in Something Wild? Did she have a bit part in it or what? What I remember most about that movie is Melanie Griffith using the handcuffs on Jeff Daniels in a hotel bed. Well, that and Ray Liotta's psycho character. Mostly Melanie Griffith though.

Gonna have to think a bit about some of those Martin. And Tabsy, I'm drawing a complete blank about the Kevin Bacon reference and an Ideal For Living.

Anyway, here's another list made up as I go along...

  1. Confusion is released stateside on the Streetwise label, also home to New Edition.

  2. Bobby Brown marries the well-known, uh, medicinally needy Whitney Houston.

  3. Whitney's biggest hit is her version of that Dolly Parton song that orginally came from the movie about some whorehouse, with Charles Durning as the Governor.

  4. Charles Durning is the Governor of Mississippi in O Brother Where Art Thou.

  5. Mississippi is the birthplace of some guy who was also, uh, medicinally needy, Elvis Presley.

The thing is actually to relate YOU to someone.... it's usually possible if you think hard.

As for myself...

  1. Bernard Sumner
  2. Gal at New Order management
  3. Blue Cat Store Manager
  4. Myself

I have 4 degrees from Bernard, I've never met him and I don't think I will unless those lazy bastards make it to the east coast and EVEN THEN I'm quite sure I wouldn't be able to :)

The "game" is that you can usually relate to someone in less than 6 degrees.. but don't push your luck, there must be a connection between 2 people, I never met the guy from Blue Cat actually, only via Internet, but he's a neighbour of Steve & Gillian... so the connection might be quicker than I thought ;)

i would think that the quincy jones connection would be a good source, especially using artists who appeared on "we are the world." this includes kenny rogers, lionel ritchie, stevie wonder, bruce springsten, michael jackson, bob dylan (i think). so there you go.

here is 6 degrees from american game show host bob barker. (1) new order had blue monday horribly remixed by quincy jones. (2) quincy jones organized we are the world, which included kenny rogers. (3) kenny rogers had a chicken franchise which was across the street from the apartment of kramer, played by michael richards, on the show seinfeld. (4) michael richard's castmate on seinfeld was that chick louis-dreyfuss. (5) louis-dreyfuss was a former cast member of saturday night live, which launched the career of adam sandler. (6) adam sandler starred in the movie "happy gilmore," which contains a cameo from... american game show host bob barker.

To my joy, I can connect myself to Mr Bernard Sumner.....

My MATE had a GRANNY who lived in South Shields who was friends with and used to go on family holidays with a MRS TENNANT and her son NEIL (believe or not, Neil Tennant is from the North East, despite sounding like Russell Harty) Who was later to work with BERNARD SUMNER in Electronic

 Tenuous I know, but small things please small minds.....:p

It doesn't HAVE to be six, that's just the limit on how high you can go.

That was in an Ideal For Living? Don't remember that at all; guess I'll have to dig my copy up for a look through then.

As for a personal connection to NO, my own is rather limited: my best friend who had a record store worked closely with the promoters who brought them to Portland for their sole Oregon performance to date in 89. Monqui, thanks for all of the great shows that you've put on up here in the great NW.
