Book Of Condolence (OT)

Was in Manchester earlier today, I went to the Town Hall to brave the queues of sentimental goons to sign the Books of Condolence for our dearly departed Queen Mother. I felt I had to add my contribution cos she obviously meant so much to us, you know.....like with Princess Diana, the great loss and all that associated with her passing would be such a big emotional hurdle for a lot of us proud Britons to have to overcome....

Anyway, I left with my little offering of six small kind words which I felt would encapsulate our feelings in the most sensitive and sympathetic way:

AND ABOUT TIME TOO. GOOD RIDDANCE.

fuckin ell!! thats not very nice, are you james walsh in disguise? i didnt paticularly like the woman, i dont like any of the royals i think theyre fuckin parasites, its nowt personal though, its the system that put em there you should hate.

We were offered Government passes to go and pay our respects withot having to queue. Decided against it, as it's probably treason to piss on the coffin.

Its sad that she died, after all she was someones Mum and Gran, but at the end of the day, she sat on her fat arse for years spending our taxes, so im not going go sign any books of condolence. And she was 101, bloody hell, did she wanna live long enough? and she had black teeth, which is always a bad thing.... and i have a sneaky suspicion she probably smelt of wee.

All these people going on about "she meant so much to the country" are talking shite...she meant chuff all to me...

I think the royal family should be booted out, but that doesn't mean wiping them out ala "The Running Man", an Ahn-uld flick from about '85 (though that WOULD be kinda cool...), just give them their walking papers. Like Liv said, she was someone's mother and grandmother, so they obviously are sad at her loss, unless they're too high to notice (prince Harry got the charges dropped, right? Tells you something). It's just the usual fascination with celebrity, we Americans are just as guilty of it (even though I tell myself I'm better than that, I still watch Entertainment Tonight occassionally).

I think, given the fact that for such a long time the Royal Family has merely served as a figurehead with no real power, you might as well just tell 'em to shove off. All they're good for now is gossip. They've helped perpetuate the British class system at its cruelest, and they should be held accountable for that. Of course, that's just my two cents, I could be wrong...

One less of them....By the way, Shug might be able to help me out on this one...there was a popular chant about ten years ago at Parkhead (before the hatred got too much for a soppy liberal like me) about the Queen Mum smelling of pish...can you remember how it went?

The Queen proclaimed : "My mother lived a wonderful life"... Well, how the hell are we going to argue with that??? If only every one could be as pampered as she was....

So yeah, Tabsy and Liv have a good point there, but before the majority of our country let crass sentimentality colour our judgement we should take a look at how great and blessed OUR own measly overburdened lives are. Fook me, if I didn't have to pay the bills, do you think I'd be as miserable, pissed off and cynical as I've been lately??? Go figure.

Anyway, here's a coincidence: I lost my Grandma (my only surviving grandparent in my lifetime, she lived in Las Vegas) last year on March 30th 2001. She would have turned 100 years old in October - barely six months later. News of the Queen Mother's death reached our household as we were paying our respects and remembering and reflecting quietly the first anniversary of our Grandma's passing the very same Saturday (March 30th 2002). Had our Grandma held out, rather than be shoved into an old people's home - away from all her home comforts, thus basically accelerating her inevitable decline - she may have lived to see her century.....As you can see, I know who I would have preferred to go earlier...

So, my sympathies lie elsewhere this time.....

I can't seem to reply with quotes or use smilies anymore because my computer shuts down on me but I'd just like to say that I will no longer consume beverages while reading posts on this forum anymore. The first post on this thread (martian man) made me spit an entire mouthful of milk onto my keyboard because I was laughing so hard ... So thanks alot !!!

Aye....if it's any consolation, me and me girl just got pissed instead.

Only thing I'll remember about the Queen Mum is the way she just used to say 'ellloooo i'm the queen mum' in a way that made her appear to be thick as fuck

But you gotta love the queen mum for her addiction to gambling and f**k you all attitude. She lived a life of luxury and loved every minute of it!!!!

The Running Man would be fookin cool indeed!!! One of my favorite flicks...I gotta dig that one out for laughs at least...
