It's a good place to find out what a lot of bands are doing nowadays in one place - gigs, releases, and previewing new songs before they come out...
Just about every band I follow (and the vast majority of it isn't indie) has a myspace page up there, with constant gig listings (often a lot sooner than any official site tends to put info up, which is usually up to a web designer to find the time to update the official site!), and preview tracks from albums yet to be released/demos/live stuff/etc.
Sure, the New Order/Joy Division/Monaco/Revenge/Other Two/Electronic/Bernard Sumner/Peter Hook/Stephen Morris/Gillian Gilbert Myspace sites have nothing to do with them, but a lot of other bands' sites are actually run by members of the band who tend to post a lot of info on there.
Also, Myspace tends to be a useful communication space for artists/bands - i.e. gigs/etc tend to be organised through Myspace that otherwise wouldn't have taken place.
