Programme tonight on Channel 4 at midnight (till 1.05am)

The story of mogul Tony Wilson, the man behind Manchester's famous Hacienda club, and acclaimed Indie label Factory Records. Featuring archive footage and interviews with those who worked with Wilson, whose discoveries include The Happy Mondays and James. (taken from The Daily Mail)

Sounds good to me;)

Just sat thru the whole thing matey - and what an enlightening freak show of sorts it was too! Good to see LARRY GOTT (original James guitarist) there too, reminiscing about their notorious 1988 tour with Happy Mondays where Shaun Ryder - off his head as usual - got lost at their Newcastle date and James having to play two sets to make up for the errant Mondays. I should know, I was frigging well at that gig and and know that was EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TOO - having spoken to Gavan Whelan (James's first drummer) and have him also explain to me why the Mondays were AWOL that evening. Fook me, they were completely hopeless and clueless even back then! Getting turned away by the bouncers at a SIMPLY RED gig across town, can you fooking believe it!!    :nonono:

Other pleasant (or in one case, not so pleasant) surprises:

  • Seeing Tim Booth living his new Buddhist Baldie look once again to the full, post-split with his band.

-Mike Pickering being his usual chirpy dry self. No sign of honking goose Heather Small then. But why no former colleagues from his great Factory band Quando Quango?

  • Dave Haslam ( A LEGEND!!) and his never-growing ears. Nice one matey! Thanks for the memories (Temperance Club, Yellow, to name but two for starters)

-No sighting of Johnny Marr, inexplicably. Why?

  • Excerpts from the legendary Channel 4 "Play At Home with New Order" programme of 1984 with Rob Gretton and Martin Hannett bits reprised for everyone's pleasure (shame they couldn't embarrass Wilson by showing him in the bath with Gillian - perhaps too distasteful for mass consumption?)

-Seeing the horrible hideous living bloated wreck that is Shaun Ryder. FOOKING HELL.   What the %£&!@!??!! Reminded me horribly of Brian Connolly from The Sweet prior to his ten heart attacks. This guy looks dangerously close to popping it. And it's hardly a surprise given his indulgence over the years. Like I said, Fooking hell. (Even BEZ looks healthier than him in comparison)

-Gillian Gilbert being credited with an ident saying "JOY DIVISION/New Order".

-The early Factory flyer misspelling Durutti Column as: "DURRUTI COLUMN".

-Hearing A Guy Called Gerald once again.

-Here To Stay playing at the closing credits.....didn't know the actor playing Barney mimes the words at this point.

All in all....a good 'un......brings back a lot of memories for me at any rate.......makes me wanna see the film now. Here's to Tuesday nite at the Cornerhouse then. :)

You are right about Shaun Ryder. Did you see him shaking? Was he going cold turkey or something?

Interesting hearing Hooky talk about all the cock ups - like having their money paid directly into Hacienda Ltd - then getting caught and fined and taking 8 YEARS to pay off the fine!

Bollocks. Forgot to tape this. Did they mention ACR at all, or was it just the usual Mondays / Division stuff.. .

Nope, not a mention of ACR. They did appear on one of the FAC posters, but that was all.

Thought it wasn't a bad documentary chatting with Barney, Hooky, Wilson, Tim Booth, Bez, rough looking Ryder et all and quite a bit of it was anusing. Must admit there was quite a bit with Hooky and for the first time I did actually start to feel for them losing so much money through incompetence of others and some of their own mistakes. Saw a clip from the 24 Hr PP in it and got say that the guy playing Gretton is pretty scarily like him. I'll have to go this week to see it.
