Just got a Substance 1987 double record from 1987. I know the singles were originally released on vinyll, but did they re-record them for the Substance album? I know that was the first time they were on CD, but were they still recorded for Vinyll?

Temptation and confusion are re recordings for Substance. Some other tracks have had a vist from Mr razorblade (Perfect kiss for instance). Most will have undergone at least minimal remastering to ensure continuity of level and EQ accross the album, despite such disparate source material.
Now someone even sadder than me will correct me 
As mentioned, Temptation and Confusion are re-recorded new versions from 1987. Sub-culture and Shellshock are both edited versions of the original 12" singles, presumably shortened to fit on the album. On the cassette and CD of Substance, The Perfect Kiss is also edited, down to 8:02 from the original 8:46 version.
If you buy the 2 CD version, you'll find that Hurt is edited from what was the original 12" version too.

Are you refering to the US Substance? Although it came in two separate jewel boxes, it was one unit. It was never available to purchase as two individual pieces.
