WFTSC, best since Technique?

I voted no, because I like Republic better. I suspect the yeses will win, however. I do rate it ahead of Get Ready, though.

No, because Get Ready is on par to me. Good albums both, but "best since Technique" isn't saying all that much to me in the end.

I love WFTSC but it's only slightly let down by one or two average tracks ... I think Get Ready is more memorable and consistent right throughout and definately would of gained them more new fans than WFTSC ...

IMO WFTSC is the worst album they ever created for me there is one really good track(the title track) and the rest is a bunch of crap, Get ready Blows it away and so does republic despite having a lot of crap on it as well

I've never got into WFTSC. Although I rate Get Ready higher its probably only because of Crystal and Primitive Notion. The later being the best thing they've written since Regret in my opinion.

Republic is right out, but WFTSC and Get Ready both have very strong tracks and very weak ones. I think I'll have to go with Get Ready though. I just can't understand people who rate WFTSC over Low-Life and PCL.

Definitely. Not the greatest fan of Jetstream or Guilt (loads love it but doesn't do it for me for some reason) but as a whole I think it's far superior as an album to say, Get Ready. A Technique-y vibe runs through it a bit too I always think, though it could never match it, but then what can?

I have never rated their studio stuff, give me a live New Order gig anyday (preferably 1983-1984, the Pernod years ).

For me, Sirens is better than Republic and GR but that not to say they're bad albums (Liar's actually the only track i dont like). Guilt seals it for me, coz its a proper dance tune and they should do more of it (not to say i dont like regret, krafty etc)

I think Get Ready is a little more inconsistant. A few "okay" songs, a couple complete misses, and a few awesome songs. WFTSC is more consistant, but doesn't have as many stand out tracks.

So I'm going to say "no" because I prefer Get Ready.

I'm going to say a 'no', because i think there are more turkeys on WFTSC than Get Ready. For me, Jetstream and I Told you So are up there in the worst NO songs ever recorded. I really cannot listen to Draculas Castle either, despite infinite attempts.

Get Ready IMHO had the last great NO single on it, in 'Crystal', and 60 Miles an Hour is still one i turn up to 'one louder' in the car.

To say either compare with 'Technique' would be stepping up a level.

I think the sales figures speak for themselves; despite relatively massive marketing budgets, WFTSC didnt take long to hit the bargain buckets.

A lot of people think Republic was horrible, but even though I still like WFTSC, I personally think that Republic is a better album than WFTSC. So therefore, to me, the best album since Technique would be Republic. That's just my personal taste and opinion, though. WFTSC is a good album as well.

I find Republic the best after Technique.-Very much underrated album. Get Ready had Crystal but not very much else. - It was still good to have the Order back. WFTSC I have listened to and like the title track, Krafty and a few others. Still on the whole it is simply not just interresting album somehow. Many of the songs have the incredients, like Hey Joe, Turn, What´s you doing. - But still the magic doesn´t shine through like it did. - Sorry but that is just how I see it. And also to many crap songs, or fillers as well on WFTSC. It´s not a exiting album.

I voted yes, since I like more of the songs on WFTSC then I do both Get Ready and Republic.

I do likes some of the songs on both the of the other albums, but I guess due to what I'm going through right now; the stuff on WFTSC just means more and I seem to relate better to the lyrics on WFTSC at this time in my life.

I TOTALLY agree with you .... Jetstream, I Told You So and Draculas Castle are really bad .... and to me let down what otherwise would be a classic album .... and it's pretty hard for NO to do anything wrong by me .!!!

The fact, that many different producers layed their hands on it gives it a very directionless charakter imo. Better let Arthur Baker produce them next time they do an album - he did a great job on Behind Closed Doors.

Of course it is - WFTSC is New Order by numbers, scarcely an original idea to be heard. It pains me to say it, but it is a pretty poor record all round. Republic, on the other hand has Everyone Everywhere; that song alone is enough to make it a better record.

I think there are more good tracks of WFTSC than either Rep or GR, but Crystal is the best thing they recorded (possibly ever...) and Regret is a classic (I like spooky too). WFTSC gets it for me because

Turn, GIAUE, WFTSC, Hey Now are all top draw.

I don't know how anyone can say that one is better than the other. Like trying to select your favourite grandchild - surely you love them all.

However for me: nothing tops Technique

Get Ready just hasn't gone the distance - can't remember when I played it last. In fact, I'm not even sure I've got a copy. The only song I really like on there is Run Wild.

Republic is a classic, but it looses it's way about halfway through and there's not enough BASS on it.

Waiting for the Siren's call has many stand-out tracks and no really rotten fillers like Republic or GR - they're all great songs.

But of the three since I've got to go with the latest. I really didn't like Republic bar a couple songs. Get Ready was better... refreshing... but didn't really grab me. WFTSC did, and some songs are fucking great... but some aren't. Still, it's better than the last two, which led me to vote yes.

They're a far different band than they were back then. They've still got some of it... whatever "it" is. In some aspects they've gotten better. However some of what made them really great in the first place... their daring, edgy, couldn't give a fuck attitude that gave their music such a brooding filmic quality... that's just not there anymore

I agree with all of this, other than your view on Republic, which I love. Anyway, I think all bands lose that edge after a while. Maybe it's just part of the maturing process???

"Get Ready" is much better than "WFTSC"! "Crystal", "60 Miles", "Primitive Notion" and "Close Range" are f*cking great songs! "Who's Joe", "Hey Now What You Doing", "Krafty" or "Turn" are good ones, but not brilliant.

WFTSC is not a patch on it. Maybe thats because I played WFTSC to death for 2 months before it was due out.

I would have to say GR is a far better album than WFTSC. if only for the time we had to wait fot it !!!

This is because I can tell from previous threads that Republic is probably the least favorite album on this site, and Crystal is pretty much the only highly regarded song off of Get Ready (maybe Primitive Notion too) while WFTSC has WFTSC, Turn, and Guilt as very popular songs.

Fair enought but its pretty lame that those who voted yes couldnt defend their decision.

I wasnt sure about WFTSC when it first come out. And Im still of the same opinion now. Whereas Get Ready is a pretty good album with some great tracks. I dont think history wil be kind to WFTFSC.

i prefer get ready to WFTSC. crystal, close range, slow jam (yes, indeed), primitive notion.... WFTSC has some excellent songs, but get ready has more of them, IMO.

While WFTSC is indeed a great great album I love Republic more, has a real hold on my heart, seems more emotional.

You're all clueless. WFTSC is SUPERB. I still listen to it regularly. After Technique and PC&L it's their best.

Every track on it is New Order taken to another level because the sound is so top-notch. That's why Get Ready and Republic aren't as good.

I also think it's a great songwriting effort. Honestly, I was gutted when I first heard 'Crystal' and '60MPH', they're alright, but were disappointing as 'comeback singles'. All the songs on WFTSC are brilliant, except Jetstream.

No, Republic, GR & WFTSC are pretty much on a par for me, some memorable moments but some ropey stuff as well... But I'd take 4 or 5 good NO tracks per album nowadays... Regret, World, RIAD, Avalanche, Crystal, Primitive Notion, Vicious Streak, Run Wild, Krafty, WFTSC, Turn, Who's Joe?...

It's so hard comparing them all-

Republic was shoe gazing synth, GR was Rocking The Shack and WFTSC is a smogarsbord of pop/dance/rock- could even have been a greatest hits collection for some bands!

I've just gone for 'yes' and made it 47 against 46. Much as I love Primitive Notion and Crystal, overall I prefer WFTSC to Get Ready.

Not as good as Technique though.

I'll say yes to WFTSC but evry albumn that they've done is fairly reflective of the music at the time.

My Theory...

Technique / AcidHouse - '89ish Republic / Shoegazery GutarPop - '92ish Get Ready / Post Grunge (70's Guitar Revival) - 2000ish WFTSC / there really is no obvious scene right now except for crossovers and genre mixing... thus WFTSC

Thus my vote might be flawed since WFTSC is the most relevant and reflective of music right now.

I know Technique is everyone's favorite, and although I love the album to death, it's not thier highlighting moment in my eyes....Substance is. But regardless, I think WFTSC is the best DIRECTION NO has had since Tech, but GR and Rep are stronger albums. Which is better??? I can't say, kind of like apples to oranges. I'm waiting for the next release, hopefully it has the same direction as WFTSC and is a stronger album.

Best albums, in order:

1. Substance - What else can be said? Two and half hours of genius material.

2. Technique - Their use of sequencers sounds heavenly at this point. The production was astounding for the time. Probably Saville's best cover.

3. Power... - New Order, but still experimental and using unusual song structures and inane lyrics. Totally unique.

4. Waiting for... - A collection of brilliant songs matched with 1st class production they deserved.

5. Movement - funeral music, but Martin Hannet's production is a world in itself. I like heavy, melancholy music but this one is too much - so depressing.

6. Get Ready - eh, it's alright. Don't like the production.

7. Brotherhood - Great songs, poor production. Some of their best guitar work.

8. Low-Life - Maybe I';ve just listened to this too much. Sounds too minimal and dry and 'same-y'.

9. Republic - the production is very flat and plastic-sounding, though it's really not as bad as made out to be. It is a good album.

It's all about the production...though they really have never made an album that was less then great.

For me, Technique is the best, followed by Low-Life, PC&L, and WFTSC. Technique has alternated between highly technical sounds with acoustic. WFTSC is more a retrospective for me, and more electronically oriented. Still, WFTSC is a good album.

I spun WFTSC the other night because my family was getting tired of the bootlegs I had been airing. Forgot what a great lp it is. I rank it their best since Low-Life. Its first two tracks hit hard with power. The title track is perhaps one of their top ten ever. I quite like ITYS. MNaD and Dracula's Castle are the weak points but Turn picks it back up. Guilt and Jet Stream are nice dance tracks.

Yes I think it is. WFTSC is better than Republic is better than Get Ready. However, the artwork on Republic is superb. I have a couple of huge posters from the album in the loft somewhere. I wonder how much I could get for them on ebay?...........
