Did Ian Curtis know Melanie Williams?

Many years ago I was told the 'truth' behind Ian Curtis' suicide by some knobhead in Manchester's Ritz nightclub.

The aforementioned asrewipe reckoned Ian had a thing for Melanie Williams (her of Sub Sub fame), but it was unrequited, Ian couldn't handle the rejection and topped himself.

I have never heard this theory anywhere else and have put it down to being plain bollocks mixed with the pound-a-pint promotion the Ritz had on offer that night.

However, agewise there is less than a decade between them. I am assuming that Williams wasn't underage at the time of Ian's death and that there may be a shed of truth in the fact that they may have known each other, particularly since Sub Sub subsequently found fame on Rob Gretton's record label.

While I do think this theory is utter bllushit, it would be interesting to know if there's any link whatsoever between the two of them. Somebody could at least debunk this myth.

Does anybody know owt?
