Run.
It's an average album. Decent though.
To anyone who thinks it's the best thing they have ever done, I require an explanation.

NO ![]()
Think Vanishing Point will win this, no?
Went for Fine Time meself. Always did prefer the underdog. However, the bass at the end (competing with the sheep) is one of the best basslines Hooky's ever done.
DER,DAS,DAT,DE..... Vanashing point reminds me of when i was young and daft....stil daft but not so young!!!

I picked "Dream Attack", but "Fine Time", "Mr Disco" and "Vanishing Point" are great songs too.

I just did.
So did I ![]()
Very tough decision cos I love the whole album.
Fine Time for me![]()
Not all that pushed about All the Way, Guilty Partner or Love Less (they have their good bits - but not faves of mine), but the rest of the Album, I love![]()
Amazed that no-one has voted for Round & Round. Is it for fear of being obvious? Less surprised by the lack of votes for Guilty Partner, as its the weakest track off the album, but even then it's still top bombing.
I went for Dream Attack, btw. But on another day could have gone for Run, Mr Disco, Loveless, Round & Round, Vanishing Point, All the Way...

Yup, it could well be.
The bass-line is clearly a bit of a rip from 'Just Like Heaven' by the Cure; I'm sure they admitted this at the time, stating it was revenge for Fat Bob using the scratchy acoustic guitar sound from EGG on 'In Between Days.
The synth line sounds gorgeous still, and the lyric lines must be amongst the best Barney has ever done.

Average album? ![]()
You do realize that it's the best album they have done according to most of their fans?
Probably the only album without standout tracks though, and no weak track... so in terms of album, it can't be other than being the best, in terms of singles, it wasn't.
vanishing point...remember hearing it 4 the 1st time live in G-mex 1988....blew me socks off
i am so glad i am the only who voted for guilty partner.
the song still speaks to me after all these years...
vive la difference!
went for dream attack, cos its the shit
honourable mentions go to every other track on the album![]()

I may have voted for R&R if we had been considering the single version that was subsequently released.

Don't know. Love Less with those first ups. There was a time I called before. when all I knew was what I saw. The keeper of a major key. Lived in a Town called Liberty. HNMM.
Great lyrics and sounds through that. The whole album too. Mr. Disco. Fine time. Vanishing Point. Whole album has what seems like some of their most confident work. But the earlier NO. 85ish sound is nowhere in sight..

Run was the track that first caught my ear so many years ago, and even now, I find myself repeating it over and over.
Dream Attack comes in a close second. fantastic tune. great closing song
Incredibly tough for me in all honesty....
I love All the Way, Run, and Vanishing Point, but the song that gets me every time is Dream Attack. I love the live versions from the 89 shows. I just jumps off the recordings I have from 89.

D'you think? ![]()
Possibly the best album they've done according to people who are NOT New Order fans, I would've said. It's their most accessible album for the non-believers.
Personally, am sure the majority of people I know would prefer an earlier offering; possibly a Low-Life or a PC&L.

Hey! Just because I'm not a FAC383, I should not be considered a non-believer.

That wasn't the point I was making.
I never said you're a non-believer if you like Technique, but I did say Technique is probably their most accessible album for those who genuinely are non-believers.
Nic, however, said Technique was their best album according to most of their fans which, from personal experience, I'd beg to differ.
I cant choose tis a perfect album, i usually listen to it from start to finish but if i had to pick one song to ear it would probably be Run, or Round & Round
i guess run wins becuase the video was better
Listened to Guilty Partner a lot recently.I like it much more now than back then. The keyboards towards the end of the song really hit the spot![]()
Technique is a great album but its hard picking the best songs from it.
I've always liked Fine Time but I think Dream Attack edges it.
had to go with VP as the best out of them all, even though I think Loveless and Dream Attack are good.
I'm finding this one quite difficult to vote on. Dream Attack is probably my favourite, but I do like Guilty Partner, Vanishing Point and Mr Disco as well, and Loveless is finally growing on me.
Run is shit though. Glad it cost 'em money, they should have been fined for releasing it!
at first listen can be mistaken for a novelty, but really it shows their creativity and ability to lay down some funked up beats. others will be tempted to choose love less, obviously the track with the strongest lyrics.

I agree completely
This is an old poll, and i put Mr. Disco a few months back, but i change my vote to Dream Attack now![]()
well, hardest thing to say for me....technique is my favorite NO album.
i love it all..from fine time to dream attack!! ![]()
I voted for Dream Attack offcourse! That´s been a favourite track of all times all bands.
I never understood the charm of Run, yet alone it being a single. It is pretty enjoyable in the end though. Didn´t care much for Loveless nor All The Way either. But Technique is still a grand masterpiece. The original form to Electronic LP and Raise The Pressure.
Why they didn´t release Vanishing Point and Dream Attack as singles from this album is beyond me. Two masterpieces that could easily had conquered the rest of the World. Well too late to cry for that now.
mika
Voted for Vanishing Point but also love Run, Fine Time, Dream Attack and Mr Disco. Why I and others like Technique is a bit unexplainable but I supoose its one of those albums when you play it from start to end the hairs on your back rise up. Cheers!![]()

Yeah, but Al wouldn't you say Technique is kinda climax to what the earlier albums seemed to head towards?.... Am I being clear? Don't you think Technique kinda closes the cycle? Whatever came next, Republic? Nothing's been the same since, nor have they been back there. You listen to those earlier albums - PCL, Low-life, Technique - back to back to do get a sense of unit that neither Movement nor anything post-Technique is able to give. It's almost if those three albums are THE actual NO stuff and everything else is, er, derivative. Know what I mean? ![]()
I'm trying to explain, by the way, how I think Technique is their greatest period without its necessarily being their best album - I do agree with Al, Low-life, for one, is more daring than that. But I also think Technique is what NO wanted Brotherhood to be but it wasn't. By the way, I didn't forget Brotherhood before, it just slipped my mind when I was writing. (Freudian slip if you like.)

To me, it's their best album. Can't really explain. It's just that All The Way and Dream Attack are 2 tracks that touched me more than any other song by NO. And they are my favourite band. And these 2 track just make this album so special.
Does anyone know how many copies Technique sold? I read somewhere it sold over one million copies in UK alone.
