I have a fondness in my heart for this record. Maybe it's because this is the record that got me into New Order. Also, because the record came out at a time when I needed to hear songs like Crystal, Somebody Like You, and Close Range. Even Primitive Notion is a great song. Rock the Shack is kind of corny, but I don't mind it honestly. The album as a whole had a harder edged attitude than the last few records, and I think the songs were extremely well written. Even the song with Billy Corgan is great. To me, this album is the best when looked at as the sum of its parts. A great record from start to finish. And better than Waiting for the Sirens Call!!

I hate getting ready in the morning, personally.I don't even much like getting ready to go out for an evening these days either ,come to think of it.Don't get me wrong -i like going out but much prefer to just slip on my shoes and go rather than all that shower,shave business beforehand

also the album that first got me into NO. Some great tracks (Crystal and SLY especially), though close range is one of the few NO tracks i dont like.

Am i the only person who likes Rock the Shack? In fact, it was actually my all-time fave NO song for a while....not anymore though :nono:

I love this L.P,only "run wild" is shite.I once knew the story of the girl on the front cover,but have forgoten all of it apart from the fact that she is a German model.

In my opinion, it's a good but deeply flawed album which is let down by a number of half-arsed songs and repetitive guitar work. It could've been brilliant but the relentless wall of guitars got very tired after repeated listens for me. They should've tried a bit more variation in the instrumentation and production used. The band even admitted afterwards they were trying to be something entirely different than New Order and it didn't quite work.

High points are Crystal, Turn My Way, Vicious Streak, Primitive Notion and Someone Like You. Low points are 60 MPH, Slow Jam, Rock The Shack, Close Range and Run Wild :shrug: Actually, I don't much mind the Steve Osborne mix of Run Wild from the Retro bonus disc and while Close Range is "ok" it's a pretty average effort from a band who've delivered such quality pop songs as True Faith or Perfect Kiss in the past. Even in their obscure side projects as well.

The choice of 60 MPH as the second single was a ill-judged and it was no surprise no third single made it off the album; even WFTSC managed three singles. Someone Like You is a great New Order single that never was :shrug: It's also a crying shame they confined Behind Closed Doors, Sabotage and Player In The League to lowly b-side status as they kick the shit out of the album low points I listed.

I can understand some people being fond of Get Ready because it was the album that got them into the band. I have a similar soft spot for Republic and even though I know it's a flawed record as well, I'll stick up for it

It was good to finally have some new New Order product. IMO it contains too many fillers, wouldn't have happened in the olden days when we were lucky to get nine songs per album.

Was it really so hard not to include Rock the Shack, Run Wild and [...] (put any one you're particarly not really fond of, PM or 60MPH, etc.). It'll be an 8 or 9-track album. What's wrong with it?

The omitted tracks would do just fine as b-sides, while the real b-sides (BCD, PIL) would fit perfectly the album. :angry:

Run Wild is one of my favourite songs.

Shame it didn't come over too well live, although it was alright at Glastonbury.

Get Ready is not a record I play a lot - the best songs are on enough live recordings anyway.

Believe it or not, I haven't even listened to the whole record yet! I don't have time to listen to it with schoolwork in the way. But it is a great comeback record.
