PowerCorruption&Lies

Great mix of songs. Low Life isn't very well produced for me, but its a definate 2nd.

PCL without hesitation. It has three remarkably beautiful songs, a great melodic dance track (The Village), three confident electro grooves, and a leftfield dirge (We All Stand), that, at the very least, bespeaks NO's distinctiveness and willingness to experiment.

For those who say LowLife is the most consistent, how do you explain away the relatively tepid Subculture? And seeing how a number of people put down Love Vigilantes and Face Up, that's more than a 1/3 of the album held in somewhat low regard. Additionally, LowLife lacks the brightness and exuberance that characterizes much of PCL.

Brotherhood! do doubt about it

PC&L Right after

Low-life just pips PC&L to the post for me.

I even love Face Up!

Even though I think Brotherhood is a very good album, I picked Low-Life.

Power, Corruption, and Lies is the peak of New Order in terms of creativity and individuality, excellent

... they are all good, thou Movement is flawed.. . "Sub-culture" is not tepid, "Love Vigilantes" is fine, Brotherhood has some great songs including "Every Little Counts", "Paradise" and the orgasmic beauty of "Bizzarelove triangle"

nothing to bitch about... just listen and enjoy these records

I would argue Bernard's vocal on the album version of Subculture is his weakest since their earliest days.

I know what you mean man. I mean PCL has the emergence of the pop hooks their known for. They were still experimenting with different sounds and sequences. But at the same time it's got a really close tie to their darker stuff and the JD stuff, like the scratchy guitar stuff that turns into little melodies by the end of the song for example. It's got some youthful angst and anger in it too. That stuff is still present on the later stuff but this was the perfect blend of all their faces.

Well, I think that PC&L is the best album of NewOrder before Technique!!

Torn between PC&L and Low-Life, but I chose the latter. :thumb:

PC&L. Low-Life might have slightly better songs overall (and they should've added Let's Go there) but the production... :nonono:

Low-Life, but only beats PC&L by virtue of having my favourite NO song on it (Love Vigilantes)... :thumb:

Substance. No,seriously "Power,Corruption and Lies" side 1,together with side 1 of "Low-Life" make it impossible for me to decide.

Surely the time is now right for the 'Best album after Substance but before Republic' poll... :evil4: Or 'Best use of frog noises in a NO song'...

I think the "bad" production of LowLife makes it fun and care-free... their first non-heavy album. This supplements the music video for The Perfect Kiss.

Both PC&L and Brotherhood seem a bit over-produced.

:skeptic: Most have commented on how poor the production is on it.

PCL no question about it is the best before Technique.

Low-Life particularly on CD stands no chance until it remastered with decent sound.

PC&L; got it when it was released; first NO album I listened to; still shattered; Low-life is a very good follow-up.

Movement sounded empty and hollow, somehow they still thought they were Joy Division. But without the singer, songs or tunes.

For me,PC&L seemed like a brand new start.Movement sounds a bit like the full stop that 'Still' should have been. I know everyone has their own personal favorite, and indeed their own oppinion. Not many people have agreed with on this point in the past, does anyone agree or at least see my point now.

Well, the only NO record before "Thechnique" I don't like so much is "Brotherhood". I love all the others, including "Movement".
