Hooky mini interview in CITY LIFE mag

Peter Hook is interviewed in the new issue of CITY LIFE (with Badly Drawn Boy on the cover), he says that the gig at Lancashire Cricket Ground (Old Trafford) will be a top day out, he also goes on to say that the gig will be the last before the band go into the studio to work on new tracks. Hooky expects the set list to change for the gig, he mentioned that HERE TO STAY will be played, along with some other new stuff, which may or may not inculde the re-worked WORLD IN MOTION 2002 (with David Beckham doing the rap?!?!), and that the Joy Division material with reflect the recent film 24 hour party people, so expect LWTUA, Transmission, Atmosphere, She's Lost Control and maybe New Dawn Fades (a guess that last one).

Personally I want to hear different stuff, more of TECHNIQUE definately, and I want to here THE PERFECT KISS, along with some older obscure stuff, like SONNER THAN YOU THINK and maybe THIEVES LIKE US.

Well, Beckham has got a bit of time on his hands now, so maybe WIM2002 is a go-er. I bet Posh is giving him singing lessons as we speak...

Can't say I'd ever thought of either of those as "obscure" !

I meant that they aren't what you would call songs that have been played live a lot, certainly I think recently New Order have stuck to playing their "Greatest Hits", and this is playing safe (originally for the RECYCLE box set promotion), sticking to crowd favourites that even the casual New order fan can sing along to songs such as Regret and True Faith. I am just saying that I'd like some variety, I guess New Order were attempting to appeal to the masses by playing their best hits, to get the audience to their gigs, now they have done that its time to dust of some of the older "less known" songs....... remember NOT EVERYONE WHO IS GOING TO THESE GIGS WILL KNOW EVERY SONG, except those of us who are dedicated fans. I am a committed New Order fan and as this Lancashire (Old Trafford) gig is 5 mins walk from my front door I shall definately be going, and hoping for some old classics to please us.... the die hard fans.

I defy anyone to disagree with me when I say over the last few years the set has not changed nearly as much as we would like, and you know why? Cos New Order are playing SAFE. GET READY was a make or break album, it was a relative success and their gigs sold out, so they know they can fill their gigs with fans, now break away from those safety belts and play different songs.
