Hows this for an idea: Substance II

Starting from 1988 till the present. We could use World In Motion, Touched By the Hands Of God, the Spooky remix, those three Get Ready B sides that everyone says should have been on the album, etc. I think the band has enough non album material from 88 onward for at least one CD, if not two. And surely nobody can find anything negative to say about this post!!!! :)

There are enough compilations to last through the fallout of a nuclear war. The only thing I'm interested in is live tracks and alternate studio takes/demos. Singles, while flawed, took care of the 'Substance 2' issue.

seriously that should have been done instead of international. not much point now that we have singles.

Hardly a revoloutionary idea. I expect quite a lot of people have already burned this one for themselves - I know I did about 3 years ago. At least you get the right version of Run2 by doing it yourself.

Agree that Substance II (12" versions, b-side/mixes) is a good idea, but given the number of NO comps out there, why waste time and effort on it? Singles was flawed, hell, even Substance 1987 had it's problems, so the chanes of any attempt to properly compile post 87 releases is bound to fcuk up too... If you're that interested in something like this the ways and means exist to do-it-yourself...

Welease...sorry, been watching Life of Brian too recently, I'll start again. Release a gig a month, direct from master, scrubbed up a touch, in flac, charge a quid or two. Someone else's plan I admit, but I like it.

Oddly enough PJ are big on releasing gigs, so we have an inside man to make the right suggestions

Like the idea, Steve (or whoever you nicked it from!)... But seeing how compilations, rarities, etc. have been handled in the past, I don't hold out much hope...

Not a bad idea for a post. Another straightforward NO compilation is needed like a hole in the head - due to Retro, International, Singles etc. covering these bases. However the original idea of Substance with NO (not DJ's etc.) remixing their singles from '88 onwards and/or including some live performances of their songs in this period could be interesting although there are pretty good bootlegs of the live stuff floating around! Any thoughts cheers!

Gentle words of advice to MLANH:

It's fine to start threads now and then, but I've noticed that for someone with so relatively few posts, you've created quite a reputation on this board. Perhaps it would be wiser to join in the conversation more often than it would be to constantly initiate it. (That is, if you can handle the abundant sarcasm 'round these parts-which you should able, considering that despite what you feel, Bernard himself has suffered more criticism in these forums than you have, and it's all done behind his back!)

A few things to say about this:

While you may be right, maybe I should be more involved in posts instead of always starting my own, I have never received so much criticism on any message board before. It seems that a lot of NO fans are a bit stuck up, and have a holier than thou attitude. I feel that a lot of my posts which are harmless get blasted for the most part, solely on my reputation, let alone the actual contents of the post. I feel like anything I write will get blasted simply because it's coming from me.

On the other hand, sometimes it is better to be an observer and a participater rather than a thread starter. Maybe I will "join the conversation" more. And I can handle sarcasm. I'm a very sarcastic fellow myself. It just seems to me that all the sarcasm directed to me is very bitter. But I'm not going away unless I get banned. In other words I'm not going away voluntarily. I mean well. I don't mean to offend. I'm just a fan who likes to talk about the band sometimes. If you want to speak to me, speak to me. If you want to ignore me, by all means do.

Reputation is a bitch tho', ain't it!!!!!

Right-I think there were a couple of posts a few months ago that, for whatever reason, genuinely riled some people on this board. Maybe it was the tone; I don't know nor particularly care to remember. I'm just saying let things drift and observe people's humour and when things are tongue in cheek and when things constitute frankness. This is the last I'm going to say on the matter because I've no interest in dispensing advice more than once; these are both words of encouragement and discretion. Plus I'm veering off-topic, which is poor etiquette.
