i managed to find EVERYTHINGS GONE GREEN C.D on factory BENELUX, at a flea market in france whilst on holiday. i dont think its worth owt but i was well chuffed for a quid!!!

I have the gatefold "substance" - the metallic "brotherhood" - the perspex imperial ruler - the "best of" chocolate box - the flicker book - various christmas cards - signed saville artwork - joy division & new order test pressings - umpteen versions of "get ready" and more recently a veritable skip full of promos for "crystal", "60 mph", "someone like you" & "here to stay". I DID have the original acetate for "digital" but sold it when I was short on my mortgage about 5 years ago - a mistake really but it went to a good home...
It was brought to my attentiopn recently that fans are being charged what I would describe as almost fraudulent prices for what are being advertised as CDR "acetates" - these are no more than the initial silver CDR promos that exist in the week before the "production" promos arrive from the pressing plant.
Esprit need to watch themselves as they have already been caught out flogging bootlegs advertised as radio edits on more than one occasion. You have been warned...
How much would a copy of Sordide Sentimentale fetch these days?
I remember reading in record collector ages ago or somewhere that it could be in the region of about £1,000 - is this true?
A mate of mine has a Polish 7" of Blue Monday in coloured vinyl but I have no idea whether its rare or worth anything.
£200 - £250 for SS Atmosphere or as suggested on many prior occasions, as much as you're willing to pay. I know one dealer in England who turns up at the Glasgow SECC fair every year with the same copy still priced at £190. Maybe this year I'll take the bait...
There are fantastic bootlegs of this now appearing - coming from Japan & Germany so look out for more obvious errors in the cheaper fakes. Find a good source for the original and take as much information with you on any bargain hunt. John Frye has a good original pressing and may be able to help out on this one. Check the weight of the vinyly and the cat numbers in the run out grooves etc., areas that are difficult to emulate perfectly - even for the professional bootleggers. Remember that it costs alot to produce a vinyl "fake" these days. Having said that, pro-boots of the infamous Sex Pistols' "God Save The Queen" on the A&M label are bordering on perfect and have in the past fooled many so called experts.

I'm fortunate to have some of this stuff also, and the Gatefold Substance really is a showcase piece. I have an original 12" acetate for Thieves Like Us which, erm, smells.. And never gets a spin!

I'm still hot on the trail for the first four studio albums on cassette - albeit mistakenly mastered BACKWARDS - just so I can then listen to them properly to seek out all the secret subliminal messages that have reportedly been slipped into these versions only (that is, NOT meaning the vinyl versions....).... This I actually read somewhere as absolutely genuine....

Well you'd have thought so wouldn't you! I keep trying that, but just get some weird server error.
The original gold/bronze sleeved "Ceremony" 7" is worth about £4 and as such barely justifies inclusion in the rare record stakes when you consider that an acetate of "Only the Lonely" might cost you £500 or that the master plates of "Blue Monday" might go for nearer £1000...
That GEMM site is a potential minefield for amateurs who have a desire to throw away their hard earned cash on over priced bootlegs & fake "radio" promos etc. Read the descriptions of the items very carefully before parting with your credit card number...

Can someone explain to me what an 'acetate' is?
I use acetates for slide presentations but what is it in relation to a record?
An acetate - in relation to vinyl records that is - is a 7, 10 or 12" aluminium disc treated with a temporary wax/acetate coating that then carries the first test pressing from a records master plates. It is then used to check the quality of the pressing and clarity of the mix. Generally, an acetate will be played once or twice only. Any further use will rapidly damage and very quickly destroy the sound on the disc. Recently, dealers have been referring to CDR acetates alot in their sales pitches - watch that one as there is really no such thing as a CD "acetate" - A gold master CD is something quite different and WOULD be very desireable. Silver CDR promos are NOT master CDRs or "acetate" copies.

A definitive New Order and Joy Division price guide was published in 'Record Collector' at the pinnacle of New Order's popularity (approx. 1989/1990). Herein lists all JD and NO material with applicable and relevant prices. If you wished I could e-mail this to you at a cost of 50 pebbles. Or alternativley I could just e-mail it to you for free. Post 1990 New Order became members of the ubiquitous 'CD world' - halting the mass pressing of vinyl, such a shame, and surely you would hopefully agree with me that no CD is really 'rare'.
Being a collector of both bands most notable rare material (and usual pressings) for many years I can honestly say that I have never before, nor since, come across such an accurate and defining list. It is worth having even if it is from 1990.
The Record Collector list is indeed a good one. Not quite as good, but maybe still worth a look is: Recordmaster.com

well if it is an original an in mint condition then yes but its been re-issued so many time so you should check.

Ta, Ian. It is indeed an original. I inherited it along with a load of other singles from my very generous uncle when he decided to get rid of all his vinyl (was going through a messy divorce, went a bit mad). Vinyl's in good condition although the cover is a little crumpled around the edges. Do not intend to get rid of it whatsoever (unlike my mad uncle, I'm a hoarder), but have often wondered if it was worth owt :)
