Hi, this is my first post!

WXPN, a radio station based in Philadelphia is counting down the 885 greatest artists of all time (as voted on by the listeners) and BOTH Joy Division and New Order placed very high on the list.

  • JD placed at 273 (they played Love Will Tear Us Apart and Transmission)
  • NO placed at 199 (they played Blue Monday and Love Vigilantes).

They may seem a bit high, but rememeber this is out of 885, and placing in the top 200 is almost like charting in the top-25 of of a top-100 countdown!

Here's the link for the countdown: http://www.xponentialmusic.org/vote/index\_complete.php

I've been a NO/JD fan for awhile, and've been reading the forum for a long time...just never had the urge to post...but I could'nt help it this time!

does the show go on for a year or summink, if they are playing two tracks by 885 artists?

No. 885 must be a pile of poop.

  1. WXPN is 88.5 FM that's where the 885 came from.

  2. I was just saying that in a ratio, comparatively it's like making the top-25. Obviously if there was only 100 they wouldn't be in it...it wasn't a litteral statement.

For a major US radio station, this is kinda a big deal. WXPN does get national radio play in some areas outside of PA.

Sorry to piss people off...I just thought maybe someone would care.

Philly ? The Dead Milkmen must be number 1 then surely.

And no - coming 225th out of 885 is not the same as coming 25th out of 100. There are still 224 acts with more votes.

I thought it was quite interesting, mate. They're not always the most grateful lot, I'm afraid!

That's JD...NO came in at 199.

Where's BA with his usual answer to this sort of thing?

Polls should be sent back. Or heavily taxed.

They're easily in my favourite 447 bands of all time...

Musicman1990,I'm very interested, there's just some right cynical fookers on here aren't they???!! For N.O.to be as high as 199 in an alltime U.S. poll is a definate achievement, not because a U.S poll is of high regard, but because of the level of diversity & choice that the voters have,& it's definately less revered than what a U.K. one would be anyway, only IMO,& only prob to Brits?  :thumb:
