I could probably name 15 bands, but certainly not 15 I listen to regularly. I do have a habit of getting right into a band, listening to them all the time, then dropping them again. Of all time, my favourites might be:
The The The Smiths Happy Mondays/Black Grape James Leonard Cohen (doesn't everyone go through that phase?) Velvet Underground/Lou Reed Pogues Bob Dylan Prince Nirvana (only a bit) U2 (only a little bit) REM (for one day) Err That's it!
EDIT:
Ooh, some more I've just thought of: St Etienne Sugarcubes Primal Scream
Going by the number of records (roughly)....
1)Joy Division 2)New Order 3)The Triffids 4)The Fall 5)The Mekons 6)Mark Stewart/The Pop Group/On-U Sound collabs. 7)Cabaret Voltaire 8)Birthday Party/Nick Cave 9)Einsturzende Neubauten 10)Chemical Brothers 11)The Church 12)Go Betweens 13)The Replacements 14)The Minutemen 15)Tom Waits

numbers 3-15 vary in order of preference depending on the mood. The same can be said of numbers 1-2!
Off the top of my head - these aren't in order except for NO (not sure I could order them in less than a week's time).

Interesting stuff there, Jack - I'll be seeing PJ here in a week or so, so I'm looking forward to that. BTW, what does Mr Hook Snr. make of your taste? And have you given Fugazi a spin? CTB
I love making these band lists:
in no order
1 - Joy Division/New Order 2 - Velvet Underground 3 - Slowdive/Mojave 3 4 - My Bloody Valentine 5 - Ladytron 6 - C.S.S. 7 - Roxy Music 8 - Aphex Twin 9 - Boards of Canada 10 - Atari Teenage Riot (politics are ridiculous but I love their sound) 11 - Beach Boys (Pet Sounds) 12 - Saint Etienne 13 - Faith No More 14 - The Ramones 15 - Public Enemy
Also: White Stripes, Pulp, Suede, NWA, Plastikman/Ritchie Hawtin, The Orb, Primal Scream, Broadcast, Seefeel, Sex Pistols, Happy Mondays, Kraftwerk, Belle & Sebastian.
I think that's it...don't really like anyone else.
Some of these bands I don't think I've listened to in about 6-7 years, but they're still 'my favourites'...weird...
I'm counting individual artists as well
- NO/JD
- The Prodigy/Flint
- Sex Pistols
- Rancid
- Chemical Bros
- Nick Cave
- Velvet Underground
- Groove Armada
- NIN
- Faithless
- Hardknox
- Marvin Gaye
- Curve
- JAMC
- Etta James
Yeah, I could live on a desert island with these.

Absolute classic band - another BT fan here. You'd do well to track down 'Sleepy-eyed', recorded live to tape (largely) in an old church I think. Good to see that fellow NO fans appreciate great groups like Buffalo Tom and Fugazi here on NOOL.
One word to the wise though - it's not very popular here in Aus these days to use the phrase 'Abbo' - that one disappeared around the same time as the words "strewth" "corker" "bonza" and "decent prime minister" here in Aus.
CTB
My favourite Buff Tom tracks - Velvet Roof, Larry, Tangerine
Saw Fugazi in Wolverhampton a good few years ago - very good
Re. BT...played "Tail lights fade" last night.
ahhhh...its all coming back now. what a song.

In no particular order and I counted solo artists as well obviously. Honestly though at the risk of sounding like a commiserating award giver, there are a TON of other musically gifted people I listen to. I usually listen to at least 4 hours of music minimum per day!
