Yikes, $25?!?

Player in the League is not worth that much.

It's just a throaway b-side instrumental.

Well apart from the heavy Barney vocals all over it..

As an expat Warringtonian (around the corner from Manc Land) I just wish he'd sung 'i've still got all my hair, sat down in the golden square' instead of that 'golden eye' stuff... Although maybe it was meant to be called GOLDEN EYE and 007 snubbed it...

...the golden square is Warrington's rather sad shopping centre...

I just listened to the sample of it on here - you're right!

That means I've got a New Order track ID'd as 'Player in the League' - but it isn't - and I've got no clue what it actually is...I looked in the discography and didn't see Player.. in any other versions - so what the hell is it?!

It's an instrumental that has Hook's bass as the lead melody with some light electronic percussion...about 3 minutes long...definately sounds like it's circa Get Ready - but it's not Sabatoge, Behind Closed Doors or Peter Saville show..

I'm really intigued now..

no, seriously - I need to know what this track is or I'll be wondering forever. It doesn't sound like some pre-mix, remix or remotely similar to any other NO song, though it's instantly recognisable as NO.

I know every New Order song and I've never heard this before.

Any NO experts out there I can send it to?

It's definately Hook playing the bass so maybe it's a Monaco or Revenge track?

I got a song off Limewire calling itself Player in the League, about 2:32 long, just an instrumental with Hooky definitely playing the bass. But it definitely isn't PITL!

Yes, that's it! 2:30 I got it off Audio Galaxy way back when.

All this time I was thinking this was PITL.

Anyone have a clue to what this mystery track is?

Can I sell it for $100 on eBay?

It's got to be a Monaco track.

I know every NO song ever made but the second Monaco album and the b-sides from their singles I never heard.

The song you all are after is not a NEWorder one. Listen to the soundfile online.

It's the Southern Californian band THE FLIR with the song 'Naked', which is released as a single-CD, also contenting this instrumental version, which is misinterpretated so often the last years.

Parts of their album 'Please, Please, Please' including the song 'Naked' are available on iTunes.

P.S.: 'Player In The League' itself is always worth it to get. For me it's the most DM'ish song they ever did.

And the mystery is solved  :)

Oh my God...I've been deceived all these years...my world has been turned UP. SIDE. DOWN!

How can I trust anything I hear ever again.

You have to admit, it does sound exactly like New Order.

And out of all this, I've found a brand new NO track. Not bad!
