What will happen to those left over tracks from WFTSC ? — Forum Archive

With the band now indicating that they don't want to work on the remaining tracks from the WFTSC sessions to turn them into the next album - what will happen to them?

I have to say I am not that unhappy about this decision. For me WFTSC is one of their weaker albums (Only "Get Ready" is worse) - so an album composed of WFTSC leftovers did not excite me!

I suppose they could be used as B-Sides - but that assumes we are going to get new A-Sides. Maybe they could rerelease WFTSC
with a bonus disc of these tracks. Or even better release all of them as the B-sides to Turn!!

nothing probably. they'll just sit on the hard drive of steves computer. a shame really,they should've put out a couple of singles to promote the recent (last?) tour.

They sold them to Britney Spears for her comeback CD. Britney said she really loves the "Madonna" Track.

Seriously I bet the cd will come out in 2008. After Control is done with. I find it fishy Peter said this before there big Movie comes out. Also Peter even played a new New Order song at a DJ gig. So things are in the works. Maybe that was the last New Order concert, because they are going to start writing under Joy Division?

But with the big Joy Division year coming up and a Cd almost finished, we have not herd the last of them. Concerts maybe a lot less!

In two years time Granada TV will chuck out yet another gritty (but slightly whimsical) drama featuring Sarah Lancashire, Keef Allen and a token jovial black bloke, about the ongoing shenanigans on the shop floor of a cotton mill in decline, or summat.

These will be the background muzak. :nod:

Or they could be used in Control? :uhoh:

Agree with this...they'll end up noodling around in the studio to finish it (perhaps separately ala Republic if necessary)

But I do think that the gigs are done for awhile (except the odd charity gig) since they aren't generating lots of album sales.

At this point I also agree with those who say "ditch" the label and have a look at doing releases directly over the internet. NO have a modest, but very loyal, fanbase and the mainstream muscle of the labels is probably no longer a good fit for them.

Peter Hook said in an interview to a Brazilian magazine that these tracks are going to end up on "Control".

Quite possibly, although I gather they're going to write and record completely new music for Control. Whether they can as Joy Division is debatable: JD cannot exist without Ian, something they decided in the days after his tragic death. Working together they can only ever be New Order. That's my purist view but they might have other ideas.

It could be that the other tracks recorded during the WFTSC sessions are never released but you never know with the Order!

Wonder if they'll do a "Beatles/Free As A Bird" and locate some long lost Ian vocal track then record some new instrumentation around it? That would technically make it Joy Division but even then it wouldn't be the same without Hannett at the controls; he invented JD's unique and dark drone.

A naff idea, probably.

I think they should re-record and release a new version of These Days which was easily a highlight of the recent gigs. The JD version never sat all that well with me as I find Ian's vocal a bit... well, crap. Barney's voice seems to suit it alot more.

Get the impression a lot of this revolves around money or lack of it. Could it be that our boys (and the missing lass) are a bit short of lolly after the touring and from my impression and questioning that the last two albums may have not sold to Warner Brothers avarice ideals. Warner and the studios do it with even Hollywood icons like Clint Eastwood in his latest "Flag Of Our Fathers" movie has all but disappeared in three weeks after release...not enough gate. If the systems does not make IMMEDIATE money instantly on anything, it chucks it.

Same for our Heroes...

They system is broken will get more broken and nothing will fix it until it is dust....

My advice to NO is to start doing an American tour of Indian casinos in the USA for entertainment....probably get a better bottom line...

I can see it now in 2009, NO playing Mystic Lake Casino on a twin bill with Williams and Ree... :scream:

The money is there boys, come and get it.
