Does anyone know the reasons why Let´s Go, which is one hell of a track wasn´t the lead single to the Best Of...compilation?

Wasn´t it produced at the same time by Arthur Baker? Wasn´t that the same guy who "cleaned up" some of the songs on the compilations or was it Hague?

It was on the US version of the Best Of... I mean, that should had excited more people at the time to get the album than just that string of re-releases: True Faith, 1963 and Blue Monday for the Rest Of...

If I´d have to take a guess I´d say that Let´s Go wasn´t finished in time or that the band/ or the record company didn´t think it had any potential.

One other question, is that about Vanishing Point on the Best Of... the booklet states it´s from 1991. Is that a typo or is it another version from that year?

I also read somewhere that VP was considered as a single from this but didn´t make it in the finals. Is this true? Hell VP should had been a single already in 1989!

A sidenote: I noticed that it´s the same author to the booklets of Best Of... as to Depeche Modes Best Of, Paul Morlet ( I believe). His style in writing hasn´t changed one bit if you compare these two.

Sorry if these have been covered here, but I couldn´t find any threads on these.

Out of ignorance, all I can say is that New Order have not always been the best to put out their best potential singles, such as Vanishing Point. The best-of Let's Go, however, is pissed all over by the original demo version from 1985 that should've been on Low-Life. I believe Baker did indeed revamp it for the best-of, as he did with a few others like 1963. He was also responsible for co-writing Confusion and Thieves Like Us, so he's been part of the New Order remixing camp since the early days. And Paul Morley wrote the booklet for the latest DM best-of? First I've heard....

the best of is hardly the 'best of' though, is it? so it's no surprise it's missing let's go. where's temptation, for god's sake?

Barney went into the studio in 94 and resang "TF" and "1963" and added some guitars, if I remember correctly.

"Let's Go" wasn't finished until after "? Best of" came out in the UK, so no wonder it wasnt on the CD.

"Vanishing Point" was originally proposed to be the first single from the album istead of the "True Faith" remix, and some remixes were commisioned. The Utah Saints were one of those chosen, but none of the mixes were used.

Agree with His Holiness the Pope, the original demo of Let's Go from '85 & indeed the tinny, badly mixed version on Salvation does piss all over the Best Of version.I never play it,mainly because of this,I think it's one of Hooky's best lines & the track can carry itself on the bassline alone plus there's enough going on in it to have ever been fooked up the way it was.The Best Of version always leaves me slightly embarrassed with all the 'lalala' bits.Poor. As for VP,the band wanted to release it as a single from Technique, but were overuled by Mr Wilson....he does, however, hold his hands up on it:nono: :thumb:

I had no clue that Let´s Go was such an old track. So there is an interesting version on the soundtrack to Salvation? Is it radically different? Meaning, should I try to get hold on the soundtrack for this track?

I guessed Lets Go probably wasn´t finished in time, but why couldn´t they wait with the compilation until they had a fresh song? Was it so important to get it out to the X-mas markets?

The Best Of... release buggers me to some extent because I think it was managed pretty badly, considering they put some effort to it.

A N.O. Best Of can't really be considered a best of,even open to differing opinions,if it doesn't at least contain Ceremony,Temptation or the original BM,so make of it what you will.I always consider it to be 'chart-friendlified',given that most of the tracks are pop orientated. As far as the Salvation version of Let's Go is concerned, yes,it's radically different & def' worth having.Even better is getting hold of a good quality live version from '85/86:nod: :thumb:

"Let's Go" doesn't really have much dancefloor/ remix potential, which was really the criteria for singles. New Order was pretty irrelevant by the mid 90s anyway pop wise, what kind of market would they be trying to promote to?

I'm not sure what you would say the point of singles like "Let's Go" or "Turn" would be, since they would no radio play nor dancefloor play

Well Regret was one of their biggest cross-over hits. And Let´s Go would had carried on that style. It could had a chance since it was the only "new" song the following year.

But I buy that dance/remix explanation. It makes sense.

I didn't bother buying the Best of..Is Let's Go (best of) the same version featured on RETRO?

It's the one with the 'You did nothing for me' lyrics, ie the b-side of 1963.

Actually there are two subtly different versions of that - one fades out or something, can't remember exactly.

Yup, the version on the US (the best of) NewOrder and the Let's Go 1 track promo CD below have a proper non-faded Hooky bass ending.

All other versions such as the Nineteen63 CDS, Retro etc. fade out. Basically every UK CD that featured the track.

Bugger all difference in timings so hard to see why they bothered

Ahh, Let's Go, my favourite New Order track (a certain version anyway).

It started live life as an instrumental in February 1985, and was recorded in demo form around that time. It wasn't included on Low Life as the album already had an instrumental in the shape of Elegia. They did attempt to put some lyrics to it at that time but it didn't work. It remained an instrumental in the live set throughout. In 1987 they recorded an instrumental version of it for the "Salvation" soundtrack. It cropped up again with a different set of lyrics in arguably the worst version yet, on the "Best Of" compilation. Never any question of it being a single, I've always thought that it was only added to the compilation so as there would be something different on there for the collector.

To me, the definitive version will always be the live version 85-87, there are several good quality examples of this, Leuven 85 is one of the best. Nagoya 87 is probably my favourite for some perverse reason, it's hardly the best sound quality!
