how would you improve New Order's videos?

During Crystal I would have loved to have seen New Order kick the "Killers" of the stage. It would have been a great "we are back" statement.

During Krafty I keep waiting for the guy to lift the girl up and plonk her arse down on the chewing gum he just stuck on the kitchen counter.

Have girls in bikinis everywhere. Hooky and Bernard driving Harley Davidson´s in the desert. Steve and Phil with beards a la ZZ top.

TBTHOG should have had an audience in the video. It looks strange seeing the band perform on stage to an empty smoke filled room.

Also, True Faith should have shown more than just a leg for Hooky.

Lots of new videos for lots of new singles

crystal- with pitbulls on the stage

blue monday 88- was just fine

bizarre love triangle- oh lord, that was something else.

that could have just shown them in the studio recording that song or with a backdrop that allows light to make their faces look blue or whatever while they're playing....

heck if i know....maybe anton corbijn could have done something for them....(did he direct some of those videos?)

Videos have never been New Order's strong point in my book.

Although True Faith is the exception to the rule, obviously.

Actually, doubt my copy of A Collection's had much of a spin.

Gillian in a bikini covered with bling, slowly humping a spurting bottle of champagne.

Surely these videos are popular nowadays?

Well.. how about having the BAND in all videos next to Ruined In a Day?

They were in Jetstream, I believe that video was an eye candy, many people didn't like it... go figure what people wants... Krafty and WFTSC were useless since it has nothing to do with the song.

I like how this tread has developed. so its agreed then, more nudity.

They should all be variations on TPK, end of story.

That's a pop video at it's purest, a band, in a room, playing their song. Poetry.

Not saying they'd all have to be so stuffy or poncy, or that the band would all have to stand round with a face like a Lurgan spade, but let's face it, live is what NO are about, so live, sober, sane (ish), and with multiple goes at it, and lifted straight to multitrack.....perfect sound, and seeing them make the noise...perfect vision.

You not seen the Albert Hall gig? Half naked Barney and Hooky.

To be honest I think Norder videos are largely crap (1963 FFS?) and I'd rather watch live footage. TOTP performances were normally good value whatever the performance.

JT! I met your doppelganger last night. I swore blind it was you! He was so much like you it was frightening!

Did you get lucky then?

The first thing I would do is to ditch the videos for 60 MPH, 1963, and Spooky. 60 MPH does not deserve to have a video to begin with. 1963 should be more realistic than a woman carrying a trunk and a "magnetic stick" afterwards. Spooky is not "True Faith"; the idea of a guy with a cardboard box as a head, dancing, should go.

I agree. What the hell were they thinking when they did those videos  Spooky is SO crap and I don´t get the point with 60 MPH- they deserve the worst award video contest :ignore:

I like Ruined in a day,world,tpk,blt,confusion,regret...

Agree with Steve/Doktor on TPK. Loved it.

Wasn't a fan of Jetstream because I couldn't see the band for all the colorchanges and I don't particularily think Ana Matronic is attractive (or cute in her wig/outfit).

I liked the concepts for Confusion (the spots with the band arriving and all - not the pizzerianess of it), True Faith, Blue Monday (even the grotty original one Steve progged) Regret, Spooky (in its club-appropriate craziness), Round & Round, Fine Time, Here to Stay (didn't even have the band in it), and Krafty.

What I would change? If a video is going to either follow the story of the song, or be abstract enough to draw away from the song it should feature attractive people and set designs. Some of the videos submitted for the Community 2 vote were things I would have loved to have seen as actual NO vids.

An obligatory "on the road/at home/on a boat" video, perhaps best suited for what was the WFTSC release. One thing I liked most of seeing the old Factory/Ikon videos was the inventiveness on a budget. One of my favorite videos from those discs (Thanks, Sol) was the 'Hanki Panki' short from Jazz Defektors. They filmed it with cars from Tony, Rob and Hooky; dance improv inside the Hacienda - very cool, very slick. Nothing too overproduced, but the end result was IMO fantastic.

Turn a live show into a video. The live Hacienda shot of Temptation made a perfect video for the song. It was cut down to its barest and it worked very, very well. With NO, I think you either go very art-school or you cut it down to basics. An independent vibe. Then it isn't so gimmicky.
