I keep hearing this mentioned on many other - non New Order - sites and wanted to get it from the people in the know, if you know what i mean.

We don't know! I guess they intend to take a break for a while again, it's been pretty full-on the last couple of years, longer if you include the writing of Sirens Call, and I guess they want some more time to do other things. Who can say whether they'll be back in a couple of years?

you see that's so much better than a break up or retirement.

i have no concerns when bands just have a long holiday cos nothing is for ever and long holidays can easily become longer and longer.

i just didn't want to hear an official announcement to that end cos it seems so final.

i'd rather they just went off and did what they wanted and came back if they wanted rather than make an announcement

Well last time they took a 'break' it was for 8 years,so if they repeat that they'll be close on sixty!

how's that song go ..... "here to stay"

how can we really all complain when we know a "control" soundtrack as well as freebass will happen.

"good times around the corner"

"is this the beginning for freebass?" just doesn't have the same ring.

My thoughts exactly...

I would like to know for a fact if this is the end or what?!

Seems like I've been here before...

They said it was over when Ian died, then they made the biggest 12" ever. They said it was over after Meadowlands, then they had their first Number One single. They said it was over in '93, then they (finally) came back more united than ever. Get the message? NEW ORDER DON'T MAKE LONG-TERM PLANS. At the moment they're pissed off after a (for them) knackering tour and the disappointing feedback from WFTSC. Just means they'll be on hold for a bit... And in the meantime: Hooky's DJing, getting Freebass in gear and playing with the Complete Stone Roses, Pottsy, Hybrid and Satellite Party. Electronic have just put together a Best Of - no surprises there, but maybe it'll revitalise them into this soundtrack Johnny wants to do. And even the sad old Other Two have been on telly and DVD with Crackers. All this from a band whose collective age is pushing two centuries... P.S. They started out as one of six thousand punk bands. Where are the other five thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine niow? Hell, even the great John Lydon has only managed one album in the last decade and that was his worst! So let's save a lot of time and teenage angst and enjoy what we've got. My name's Ben Elton, goodnight.

They themselves haven't really said never again, just not for now.

Even when they said never again in the past they still came back.

I think it depends on whether there is still a spark and urge to continue or whether they are old enough to say retire and be content.

Still hope the songs from the WFTSC sessions that were supposed to comprise the follow-up album don't go by the wayside.

Nah. Heard it a thousand times before. They'll be back at some point.

They have over half an album of songs in the can (movie jargon for music..?!)

They have no excuse to not finish it up somehow!
